The Lights of Hope charity display at the old St. Paul's Hospital on Burrard Street is running for the final time this year, with a lighting ceremony set for November 12, Vancouver Is Awesome reported on October 29.

St. Paul's Foundation says the display is ending its run at the Burrard Street site because the hospital is moving to a new building at 1002 Station Street, which is expected to open in early 2027. "Please join us in celebrating our final Lights of Hope celebration night on Burrard Street as we get ready to open the doors to the new hospital in early 2027!" reads the Foundation's Lights of Hope page, as cited by Vancouver Is Awesome.

## The ceremony

The lighting event on November 12 runs from 6 to 8 p.m. at the old St. Paul's Hospital site on Burrard Street in downtown Vancouver. The Foundation has planned fireworks and festivities as part of the evening.

## 28 years of fundraising

The Lights of Hope started in 1998. The display puts 100,000 lights on the hospital facade, with each lit star representing a donation of between $2,500 and $50,000. St. Paul's Foundation says the event has raised nearly $60 million across its run, in support of patients, residents, families, and caregivers.

"Lights of Hope has raised nearly $60 million over the years, bringing our community together to celebrate generosity, honour loved ones, and shine a light for patients, residents, families, and caregivers when they need it most," the Foundation said in a post cited by Vancouver Is Awesome.

## What comes next

Once the new hospital at Station Street opens, the Foundation has said the display may continue there, but no firm plan has been announced. Vancouver Is Awesome said it contacted the Foundation for comment; no response had been received as of the article's publication.

Residents who want to attend the final Burrard Street ceremony can plan for November 12, 6 to 8 p.m., at the old St. Paul's Hospital on Burrard Street.
