The Georgia Straight is hosting a public event on October 13 where editor-in-chief Nathan Caddell will interview Mayor Ken Sim, four days before Vancouver votes on October 17.

The event, called Straight Talks: Vancouver Before the Vote, takes place at And-Co Offices at 1575 West Georgia Street in Coal Harbour. Doors open at 1 pm and the program ends at 3 pm. Tickets cost $20 and space is limited.

According to the Georgia Straight's announcement, the interview will cover housing, public safety, the city budget, and the promises [Ken Sim](/candidates/ken-sim) made during the 2022 campaign. The paper says the event is "not affiliated with, organized by, or endorsed by any candidate, party, or campaign."

## What happens before the Ken Sim interview

The program starts with a panel discussion moderated by William Johnson, VP of strategy at Overstory Media Group. Three panelists will speak: Jane Talbot, president and CEO of Downtown Van; Ian Tostenson, president and CEO of the BC Restaurant and Foodservices Association; and Max Mitchell, owner of BOOM! Pro Wrestling and a local arts organizer.

The panel covers affordability and what the next council should do for the businesses, workers, and cultural organizations in the city, according to the Georgia Straight.

## What will be covered in the Ken Sim interview

The Georgia Straight says the interview gives the mayor an opportunity to defend his record on housing, public safety, the budget, and his 2022 commitments. The paper described the interview as "on-the-record conversation."

Sim has served as Vancouver mayor since late 2022, when ABC Vancouver won a majority on city council. ABC's current platform includes positions on involuntary care, housing, and public safety that have been central to debate in this election.

## What voters can do

Tickets to attend are $20 at the Luma event page linked in the Georgia Straight's announcement. Advance voting is open now at several locations across the city through October 15. See [where to vote](/where-to-vote) for locations and hours.
