Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim, who is running for re-election on October 17 with ABC Vancouver, released a video on September 25 saying his wife received a threatening message on Instagram, and citing a 2024 bomb threat and graffiti at their home. The Canadian Press reported the video through CTV News. In the video, [Ken Sim](/candidates/ken-sim) said he and his wife, Teena Sim, had planned to film together and then decided she should stay off camera after she got the Instagram message days before the shoot.

## What the video shows

The Canadian Press wrote that the video shows a series of threatening messages, one saying the recipient has "an ugly family" and referring to skin colour, and another proposing removing "his head from his body." Sim said threats reach the family in different ways, some dropping into online direct messages and some going to their house. He said that while he has "a pretty thick skin," his family did not ask for this.

## The 2024 incidents Sim cites

Sim said the family has been targeted by multiple threatening incidents and hate-fuelled attacks. He named a bomb threat and their home being defaced with what he called "hateful" graffiti on Halloween night in 2024. voche.me has not seen a police statement confirming those two incidents, and carries them as Sim's own account, in the form CTV News published.
