GigHound Inc. has filed a civil claim against [Joyce Gillespie](/candidates/joyce-gillespie), an ABC Vancouver city council candidate, along with her husband Tony Lam and their company CLB Interactive Inc. CTV News reported the suit on September 28, 2026.

The claim, filed April 30, 2026 in British Columbia civil court, says Gillespie was a former director and president of GigHound, a company that matches employers with temporary and gig workers. Lam is identified as the company's former chief executive officer and chief financial officer. Gillespie's campaign biography does not name GigHound, but her nomination papers list it as an asset she holds.

## What the claim alleges

CTV News reports that GigHound director Justin Ober became concerned in August 2024 that the company was running at a loss and began reviewing its finances. The review, according to the claim, uncovered what GigHound says were non-business expenses charged to the company by Lam, as well as overbilling by CLB Interactive.

Among the specific allegations, as set out in the civil claim: Gillespie and her mother were overpaid on loans they had made to GigHound, and company funds were used to pay personal taxes and non-business expenses including flights, accommodations, and entertainment. The claim puts the period of the alleged misappropriation between October 2022 and August 2024.

GigHound also claims that during that period, the company met with Lam to discuss the allegations and that he admitted to the misappropriation. The defendants dispute that allegation in their response.

## The CRA debt

The civil claim also states that GigHound owes $6.3 million to the Canada Revenue Agency. The company alleges that Lam made false assurances the arrears were paid and that tax filings were up to date, and that neither Lam nor Gillespie told the company it was in arrears. According to CTV News, the CRA began garnishing wages from one of GigHound's largest clients in 2024.

## Termination and damages

Gillespie was removed as president in February 2026, according to the notice of civil claim, cited by CTV News as "for poor performance and for committing actions against the company's interests." GigHound is seeking punitive damages and alleges Gillespie "knew Lam and CLB owed GigHound fiduciary duties" and assisted in breaches of those duties "by being reckless or wilfully blind to their conduct."

## Responses

Asked for her response to the allegations, Gillespie told CTV News: "I cannot comment on active litigation as this is going before the courts. I believe the court will make the right decision."

ABC Vancouver told CTV News that Mayor Ken Sim is aware Gillespie is being sued and that it was disclosed during the candidate vetting process.

No court has ruled on these allegations, and they remain unproven.
