The City of Vancouver says an estimated 25,142 people voted on Wednesday, October 7, the second day of advance voting in the municipal election, CBC News reported on October 8. The City says that is the highest single-day advance turnout on record.

The previous single-day record was 21,824, which the City of Vancouver set just three days earlier on October 3, the first advance voting day of this election, according to CBC News.

The second day of advance voting in 2026 drew 139 per cent more people than the equivalent day in 2022, according to CBC News reporting on City of Vancouver figures. The first day drew 196 per cent more.

## What the City says about this year's expansion

Despite the high turnout on October 7, the City said it had more advance polling places this year, and that they were larger than in previous years, which helped keep wait times down, CBC News reported. The article does not give specific figures on the number of locations.

In 2022, a total of 65,127 people voted early, which was close to 40 per cent of that election's total turnout, according to CBC News.

Several other Metro Vancouver municipalities, including Surrey, Burnaby, and New Westminster, also held advance voting on October 7, but had not published their own turnout numbers as of when CBC News filed its report.

## Two advance voting days remain

Two advance voting days remain before election day:

- Saturday, October 10
- Tuesday, October 13

Election day is Saturday, October 17, when polling places will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

On October 17, voters will choose a mayor, city councillors, Vancouver Park Board commissioners, and Vancouver School Board trustees. They will also vote on a capital plan that includes borrowing for community centres and infrastructure, and a separate non-binding plebiscite on public safety. Advance voting locations and hours are at /where-to-vote.
