Vancouver's first three days of advance voting in the 2026 civic election have drawn 74,714 voters, surpassing the 64,963 counted across all five advance voting days in the 2022 civic election, the City's preliminary figures show. One advance voting day remains.

Daily Hive reported the City's figures on Sunday morning. On Saturday, October 10, 27,748 people cast ballots, a new all-time single-day advance voting record. That broke the record for the third consecutive advance voting day: the previous single-day marks were 25,142 on October 7 and 21,824 on October 3.

The three-day figure is 9,751 higher than 2022's full advance total. It also equals 44% of the 171,494 ballots cast in the entire 2022 civic election across mail-in, advance and general voting day combined.

Saturday's count of 27,748 was more than double the 13,856 who voted on the comparable day in 2022.

**Why turnout is higher**

The City nearly tripled the number of advance voting locations, from 22 per day in 2022 to 59 per day in 2026, and doubled the elections budget from $4.4 million in 2022 to $9.4 million in 2026. The expansion followed long lineups at the April 2025 by-election. Despite the larger crowds, the City said voters continued to report moving through polling places quickly.

The concurrent provincial election and higher public interest in the municipal races are also factors, Daily Hive noted, though it remains to be seen whether the surge in advance voting will translate into a higher overall turnout or whether many people are simply voting earlier than they would have on general voting day.

**Deadlines still ahead**

The final advance voting day is Tuesday, October 13, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at 59 locations. Any eligible voter may use any location.

Mail-in ballot packages can be requested for pickup at the Election Office until noon on October 13. The pickup deadline is noon on October 16. Completed mail ballots must reach the City by 8 p.m. on October 17. A postmark before that deadline is not enough to count.

General voting day is Saturday, October 17, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at 85 locations. Voters will choose a mayor, city councillors, Park Board commissioners and School Board trustees, and will answer two plebiscite questions on the capital plan and public safety.
