## About Rob Nijjar
Rob Nijjar appears on the City of Vancouver's final 2026 candidate list for School Board, with ballot number 316. The City records the affiliation as ABC Vancouver.
The page says Nijjar was an MLA for Vancouver-Kingsway, an executive assistant to a Vancouver MP, and an assistant to the Leader of the Official Opposition of BC. The page says Nijjar is Executive Director of the Sunset on Fraser Business Association and runs a business development firm. The page says the candidate holds a Bachelor in General Studies and an MBA.
Nijjar sat in the British Columbia legislature as the member for Vancouver-Kingsway from May 2001 to May 2005 for the British Columbia Liberal Party, winning the seat in 2001 with 8,264 votes against 5,429 for the New Democratic Party candidate.
Nijjar lost the Vancouver-Kingsway seat in the 2005 provincial election to New Democratic Party candidate Adrian Dix, who took 10,038 votes against 7,894.
CBC reported on May 20, 2025 that Nijjar is executive director of the Sunset on Fraser Business Association and grew up in the Sunset neighbourhood of South Vancouver.
The ABC Vancouver candidate page says Nijjar was co-chair of the legislature's standing committee for education and chaired a committee on youth employment and the government caucus committee on the economy. The Wikipedia entry says Nijjar served on the government caucus committee on the economy and chaired its sub-committee on youth employment.
The party page says Nijjar holds a Bachelor in General Studies and an MBA. The Wikipedia entry says the General Studies degree was earned at Simon Fraser University in 1992.
The party page says Nijjar has served on the Employment and Assistance Appeal Tribunal of BC, the Vancouver Planning Commission and the BC Transplant Society, has been involved with two Rotary clubs, coached the West Vancouver women's field hockey team and served as disciplinary chair of the Vancouver men's field hockey league. None of these was confirmed independently.
The party page says Nijjar received the Queen Elizabeth Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002 and the King Charles Coronation Medal in 2023. No independent record of either award was found.
The party page also says Nijjar was an executive assistant to a Vancouver member of parliament and an assistant to the leader of the official opposition in British Columbia, and now runs a business development consulting firm. The Wikipedia entry says Nijjar worked as a business manager before founding a public relations firm in 1998, and became executive director of the South Hill Business Improvement Association after 2005.
Daily Hive reported on August 27, 2026 that ABC Vancouver named Nijjar, described as a former BC Liberal MLA, to its school board slate. Nijjar appears on the ballot as number 316.
