Workers at Nico Wynd Golf Course in Surrey have been on strike for two months over seniority rights, and the BC Federation of Labour called for a public boycott of the course after a union representative said she was struck by a vehicle on the picket line on October 31, CityNews Vancouver reported November 4.

Dallis Van Steinburg, a business agent with Service Employees International Union Local 2, told CityNews she was hit by a vehicle driven by a person at the picket line and now has to use a cane. Surrey Police Service confirmed to CityNews the incident is under investigation. Police said the pedestrian was eventually taken to hospital after initially saying she was not injured. No charges have been reported.

## What workers say happened

Mike Grevling, a groundskeeper at the course, described two other alleged incidents to CityNews: a manager's dog bit employees and when workers complained, management said "you antagonized my dog"; and strata council members physically fought each other and went after staff. Grevling said: "All we want is a fair deal."

Nico Wynd Golf Course received a request for comment before the article was published but had not responded by the article's deadline, according to CityNews.

## The boycott call

Sussanne Skidmore, president of the BC Federation of Labour, is asking the public not to use Nico Wynd Golf Course until the dispute ends. Skidmore told CityNews: "Violence has escalated at Nico Wynd, and workers have concerns about bullying and harassment." She also said management has not been at the bargaining table.

## What you can do

Surrey residents who want to follow the police investigation can watch for updates from Surrey Police Service. The labour dispute is between the union and the employer, with the police inquiry running in parallel. The BC Federation of Labour's boycott call means anyone planning to use the course is now aware of the ongoing dispute.
