A section of Fraser Highway in Surrey will be restricted to local traffic for one month starting November 12, while workers install beams above the road for the future Green Timbers Station, Peace Arch News reported November 3.

The section from Whalley Boulevard to 140 Street will be local access only from November 12 to December 12. Workers are building part of the SkyTrain guideway that will carry trains above the road once the Surrey-Langley SkyTrain extension opens. Peace Arch News said the work will run 24 hours a day, with traffic stopped when overhead work is active directly above the road.

## Who is affected

Drivers who travel through that stretch of Fraser Highway to reach areas beyond it will need to use one of three detour routes: King George Boulevard, 100 Avenue or 96 Avenue. Access to 138 Street north of Fraser Highway will also be restricted until December 18, one week after the main closure ends.

Pedestrians and cyclists keep access on the north side of Fraser Highway throughout the period. The south side multi-use pathway will be local access only. Emergency services access is maintained throughout.

## What comes next

Green Timbers Station is one of the stations planned for the Surrey-Langley SkyTrain extension, which will add new SkyTrain service connecting Surrey City Centre to Langley City. The beam installation work this month is one stage in a construction schedule that stretches across multiple Surrey roads as the guideway is built section by section.

Surrey's new mayor [Doug McCallum](/bc/surrey-2026/candidates/doug-mccallum) has a SkyTrain extension further south as one of his 15 election commitments: a line from Surrey City Centre down King George Boulevard to Newton. That commitment goes to a council vote at the first regular meeting on November 9. The Green Timbers construction is part of the existing provincial extension project, separate from the Newton commitment.

## What you can do

If you live or drive in the area between Whalley Boulevard and 140 Street, plan an alternate route through King George Boulevard, 100 Avenue or 96 Avenue before November 12. The restriction runs until December 12, and the 138 Street access restriction runs until December 18.
