Women working for the Richmond School District earn on average 8 per cent less per hour than men, the district's 2025/2026 Pay Transparency Report shows. Richmond News reported the figures on November 6, 2026.

For every dollar men earned in average hourly wages, women earned 92 cents, according to the report as cited by Richmond News. The gap in median hourly wages is wider: 14 per cent, with women earning 86 cents for every dollar men earned at the median.

## Overtime pay

The gap is larger for overtime. Women's median overtime pay is 46 per cent less than men's, and the mean overtime pay gap is 50 per cent, the report shows.

Nine per cent of men at the district received overtime pay, compared with 8 per cent of women, according to Richmond News. Five per cent of employees who preferred not to say their gender or did not fill in a gender category also received overtime pay.

## Who is at the top and bottom

Women made up 19 per cent of employees in the highest-paid quartile at the district, and 17 per cent of the lowest-paid quartile, the report shows. The district excluded one or more gender categories from some tables because the numbers were too small to meet disclosure requirements, Richmond News reported.

## Why the report exists

British Columbia's Pay Transparency Act, enacted in 2023, requires employers with more than 50 employees to publish annual pay transparency reports. The Richmond School District prepared its report from its own employee compensation data, district spokesperson David Sadler confirmed to Richmond News.

The district's website, as cited by Richmond News, says the report aims to "promote trust and accountability within our community and uphold our commitment to equitable pay practices."

## How Richmond compares to BC

Last year, women in British Columbia earned on average 15 per cent less than men, according to the provincial government website cited by Richmond News. The Richmond School District's 8 per cent gap in average hourly wages is below that provincial figure. The provincial site also notes the gap is wider for women who are Indigenous, racialized, newcomers, disabled, or 2SLGBTQIA+.
