01 / Introduction

## About Michael Wolfe

Michael Wolfe was re-elected to Richmond City Council on October 17, 2026. The City's official count, declared on October 21, 2026, gives him 14,315 votes, third among the 55 council candidates. The City's declaration of election by voting prints RITE Richmond as his elector organization; Richmond News reported that its three sitting councillors, Carol Day, Wolfe and Laura Gillanders, were all re-elected.

Richmond News reported his first election in October 2018, running with RITE Richmond, and wrote that it was his tenth attempt at elected office, after four runs for council, one for mayor, one for trustee and the rest for MLA and MP. The Richmond Sentinel reported the same night that he had run in civic or provincial elections over 13 years. Elections BC's Statements of Votes list him as the Green Party candidate in Richmond Centre in 2009, with 1,213 votes, and in 2013, with 1,678. Richmond News reported his re-election in October 2022. The City's own page lists him as a fourth generation Richmond resident, a science teacher at Matthew McNair Secondary School, and a member of Council's General Purposes, Finance, Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services, and Public Works and Transportation committees, with liaison roles on the Advisory Committee on the Environment, the Heritage Commission and five other bodies. In his questionnaire answers he wrote that he chairs the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services committee.

By his own account, in the statement he gave the City and on RITE Richmond's site, he holds a Master's in Education, has a 100 per cent attendance record at Council committee meetings this term, and has worked for more than 20 years on municipal issues, including farmland protection and the limits on house sizes on agricultural land. voche.me has not checked the attendance record or the Council record against the City's minutes. The City's page says that before his election he belonged to the Garden City Conservation Society, Richmond FarmWatch and the Richmond Health Advisory Committee and coordinated local activities for the Green Party of Canada and the BC Greens.

In the Richmond News questionnaire, published between September 28 and October 8, 2026, he answered yes to 16 of the 21 questions and no to five. He wrote that he opposed Council's decision to remove the environmentally sensitive area designation from a large area of East Richmond, that Richmond has not kept pace with the growth of demand for recreation facilities, and that the City should keep its appeal of the Cowichan Tribes ruling without expanding its role beyond it. At the council debate of October 8, 2026, Richmond News reported, he called for senior day programs in every neighbourhood and accessible shuttles to get people there.

The City's minutes of September 28, 2026 list him present and record him and Councillor Gillanders as the two members opposed to first, second and third reading of the bylaw rezoning 9211 to 9351 Blundell Road from small-scale multi-unit housing to high density townhouses, after discussion of tree retention and replacement. The minutes of October 13, 2026 list him present and record no vote by him against a motion.
