# Donna Sargent

- Elected, School Trustee15,764 votes, 7th of 28. Official count, City of Richmond. [All results](https://voche.me/bc/richmond-2026/results#school-trustee)

Re-elected school trustee of Richmond on October 17, 2026, with 15,764 votes, seventh of 28 trustee candidates and 305 ahead of the next. A trustee for 25 years by her own account and a past chair of the Board, she ran without an organization on funding for student supports, seismic upgrades and a City Centre school, and policies for AI in schools.

Donna Sargent was re-elected to the Richmond Board of Education on October 17, 2026, with 15,764 votes in the City's official count, declared on October 21, 2026, seventh of 28 candidates for the seven seats and 305 ahead of Sophia Woo of Advance Richmond. The City's declaration of election by voting prints no elector organization for her; Richmond News reported that she ran as an independent after running with Richmond First in 2014 and 2018 and with Richmond United in 2022. The paper described her as board chair in 2011 and 2014, reported her 18,176 votes in 2014, the most that year, and her 13,855 votes in 2022, second of 15. The BC School Trustees Association listed her among its directors in 2019 and thanked her for past service in 2022, and the BC Public School Employers' Association lists her as its Metro Region trustee director. Her platform promises advocacy to the Province for funding for student supports and names seismic upgrades, maintenance and a new City Centre elementary school as the district's capital needs. In the Richmond News questionnaire she answered yes to more basics, trades training, drug awareness, outdoor education, a cellphone ban, more support workers and the SOGI policies, and wrote that the board should give educators professional development, policies and frameworks for AI.

01 / Introduction

## About Donna Sargent

Donna Sargent was re-elected to the Richmond Board of Education on October 17, 2026. The City's official count gives her 15,764 votes, seventh of 28 candidates for the seven seats; Richmond News reported that she took the last seat by 305 votes over Sophia Woo of Advance Richmond. The City's declaration of election by voting of September 21, 2026 prints no elector organization for her, and Richmond News reported that she announced she would run as an independent. On October 19, 2026 the paper quoted her saying she had squeaked in on the last poll of the night, that she hoped the tone of the campaign would not carry over, and that making schools welcoming and safe and protecting staff were her priorities.

Richmond News reported her as the sitting board chair in 2011 and again in 2014, when she was re-elected with 18,176 votes, the most of any trustee candidate, and said her agenda was the district's inclusion policies, a facilities review and relations with partner groups. In 2018 she was re-elected with Richmond First, the paper reported, and in October 2022 with Richmond United, with 13,855 votes, second of 15. At the Richmond Teachers' Association meeting of October 2022 she said her vote for the sexual orientation and gender identity policy was one of the most important she had taken, Richmond News reported. In late 2023 she was nominated for vice-chair and lost the vote to Ken Hamaguchi, the paper reported.

The BC School Trustees Association's release of April 30, 2019 lists her among the directors elected to its 2019-20 board, and its post of April 27, 2022 thanks her for past service on that board. The BC Public School Employers' Association's board page, read on October 30, 2026, lists her as the trustee director for the Metro Region. Her campaign site says she served eight years on the first board and four on the second.

By her own account, in the statement she gave the City, on her campaign site and on the School District's page, she has been a trustee for 25 years, has lived in Richmond for more than 40 years, has been involved with the district since 1991, was president and vice-president of the Richmond District Parents Association, chaired the trustees association's Metro branch, is a past president of a Lions Club, has been vice-chairperson of The Maple Residences for eight years and is a member of the Canadian Federation of University Women. voche.me has not checked these with the clubs or any other body.

Research status

## What voche.me has checked

Researched on 2026-10-30 through the seven search steps listed below: the City's candidate profile, results and declarations, her campaign site (home, about, platform and trustee role pages), her VoteMate page, her answers to the Richmond News questionnaire of October 2026, Richmond News reports of 2011, 2014, 2018, 2022, late 2023 and of the 2026 campaign and result, the bios she submitted to the paper in 2011, 2014 and 2018, Richmond Sentinel reports of 2022, the School District's trustee page through the Internet Archive's copy of May 11, 2026, two BC School Trustees Association announcements and the BC Public School Employers' Association's board page.

Her account of her years on the Board, her community roles and her years on the two provincial boards comes from her own statements and the School District's page; the two associations' own pages confirm a seat on each board. Her City profile lists Facebook, Instagram and X accounts (votesargent2026); each showed a login page to scripts, so no post was read. The School District's site (sd38.bc.ca) answers 403 to scripts, so her recorded votes at the Board were not read. The Richmond News questionnaire was found by web search, because the paper's search pages refuse scripts.
