01 / Introduction

## About Alice Wong

Alice Wong was re-elected to the Richmond Board of Education on October 17, 2026. The City's official count gives her 16,101 votes, sixth of 28 candidates for the seven seats. The City's declaration of election by voting of September 21, 2026 prints Common Sense as her elector organization, the Common Sense Alliance, which ran three council candidates and her. Richmond News counted her among the five incumbents re-elected.

Richmond News reported her first election in November 2014, when she was one of four new trustees. In 2018 she ran as an independent and lost her seat, the paper reported, after telling a press conference that she felt guilty about voting for the board's sexual orientation and gender identity policy by mistake in June of that year, when she thought the vote was to adjourn; she said she would ask to change her vote. In October 2022 she won a seat with the Richmond Community Coalition with 13,769 votes, third of 15, Richmond News reported. At the Richmond Teachers' Association meeting that month she defended the policy, the paper reported, and told it she was in favour of it but had wanted more consultation in 2017. Richmond News reported in late 2023 that the board named her alternate representative to the BC School Trustees Association.

In the Richmond News questionnaire of October 2026 she wrote that the curriculum should put more emphasis on trades and hands-on career education alongside academic programs, with pathways such as construction, electrical, automotive, welding, culinary arts and technology and links to apprenticeships and employers; that the elementary track meet can be more inclusive while keeping competition and recognition; and that she supports the SOGI policies, with parents as partners and the right to ask questions about how they are carried out. Her organization's trustee commitment, shown on her VoteMate page, promises technology and AI literacy in the curriculum and education in the responsible use of new technologies.

By her own account, in the statement she gave the City, on her organization's page and on the School District's page, she has volunteered in Richmond schools since 2001, chaired parent advisory councils at an elementary and a secondary school, was vice-president of the Richmond District Parents Association and chair of the Richmond Chinese Parents Association, was a cadet officer with the Navy League, and sits on the boards of the D.A.R.E. BC Society and the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Richmond senior group. voche.me has not checked these with the associations or any other body.

Research status

## What voche.me has checked

Researched on 2026-10-30 through the seven search steps listed below: the City's candidate profile, results and declarations, the Common Sense Alliance's home, pillars and candidates pages, her VoteMate page, her answers to the Richmond News questionnaire of October 2026, Richmond News reports of 2014, 2018, 2022, late 2023 and of the 2026 campaign and result, the bios she submitted to the paper in 2014 and 2018, Richmond Sentinel reports of 2022, and the School District's trustee page through the Internet Archive's copy of July 13, 2026.

Her account of her volunteer roles and board seats comes from her own statements, her organization's page and the School District's page and was not checked with any other body. She gave the City no website and no social media account. The School District's site (sd38.bc.ca) answers 403 to scripts, so her recorded votes at the Board were not read; her years on the Board rest on the district's own trustee page and on Richmond News. The Richmond News questionnaire was found by web search, because the paper's search pages refuse scripts.
