HOUSING SUPPLY AND RENTAL RULES

## BC Green Party on housing

The BC Green Party says it would build and protect 26,000 permanently affordable, non-market homes a year, and make it easier and faster to build all forms of housing.

On 2026-09-29 the party published a plan for renters. It says it would bring back vacancy control, which ties the allowed rent increase to the home instead of the tenant, so a landlord could not raise the rent each time a tenant moves out. The party says yearly increases would still be set by the Residential Tenancy Branch.

The party blames the BC NDP government for cancelling the Community Housing Fund and says it would restart that fund on day one.

The party’s Our Plan page, read on 2026-09-30, says its full platform is still to come.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

## Questions about this

<details>

<summary>What is vacancy control?

</summary>

It is a rule that ties the allowed rent increase to the home. Today in BC, rent increases are limited while a tenant stays, but a landlord can set a new rent when the tenant leaves. The BC Green Party says it would end that gap.
