The BC NDP announced on September 22 that [Jinny Sims](/bc/provincial-2026/candidates/jinny-sims) will be its candidate in Surrey-Panorama for the October 24 provincial election, the Indo-Canadian Voice reported. The announcement came the same day Premier David Eby called the snap election.

According to the party's announcement, Sims is a former Member of Parliament and a former provincial cabinet minister. The party says she has previously been elected as MLA in the Surrey-Panorama riding. Those details are the party's own, from its announcement about her nomination, and have not been independently verified in this article.

## What the party says

In the party's announcement, Sims said: "People in Surrey-Panorama are facing tough challenges right now, and the BC NDP is the only party with a plan." That statement is her campaign claim.

The NDP described Sims as a past president of the BC Teachers' Federation and a broadcaster at Swift Radio. Premier David Eby said in the announcement: "Jinny is a dedicated advocate for her community. She is a strong voice for the people of Surrey, whether behind the microphone at Swift Radio, in local, provincial, or federal politics, or as a neighbour, family member, and friend."
