Gordon Skulnec has been confirmed as the Conservative Party of BC candidate in Kootenay Central for the October 24 provincial election. He is a retired RCMP officer who served 17 years in the East Kootenays and a former medical radiographer based in the West Kootenays.

The party confirmed his nomination in a profile published on the Conservative Party of BC website. Conservative leader [Lorne Doerkson](/bc/provincial-2026/candidates/lorne-doerkson) said in a statement released October 4: "In less than two weeks, 93 outstanding British Columbians stepped forward because they love this province and believe in its future."

## Skulnec's background

According to the party's own profile, [Gordon Skulnec](/bc/provincial-2026/candidates/gordon-skulnec) grew up in the West Kootenays. He worked as a medical radiographer at a hospital in Trail before joining the RCMP, where he served for 17 years in Cranbrook and Kimberley before retiring in May 2023. He also ran a small rental property and property management business in Salmo.

In Cranbrook, he has coached minor baseball and currently serves as Director of Baseball for the Cranbrook Minor Ball Association. He is also involved with a men's group at Connect Church.

## The Conservative Party's full slate

The Conservative Party of BC is the only party to have nominated candidates in all 93 ridings in the October 24 election, according to the party's October 4 announcement. The BC NDP did not file a candidate in Peace River North before the October 3 deadline, leaving that riding with no NDP option on the ballot.

The Conservative party website describes Skulnec as someone who "loves this province" and is running because he wants to see strong leadership. His campaign biography on the party's site does not include a detailed platform specific to Kootenay Central, and the party has not published a cost breakdown of any riding-level commitments. All descriptions of Skulnec's background come from the party's own profile.
