[David Eby](/bc/provincial-2026/candidates/david-eby) conceded the BC election at 9:20 p.m. on October 24, 2026 and announced he was stepping down as [BC NDP](/bc/provincial-2026/parties/bc-ndp) leader, according to Daily Hive. He conceded about 90 minutes after polls closed.

Daily Hive reported Eby saying "Not the result that any of us wanted" and "I accept full responsibility." He told supporters it was time for the BC NDP to find new leadership.

Daily Hive reported that Eby became the first BC party leader to call a snap election and lose. He called the election on September 22, 2026, following what Daily Hive described as fumbles by Conservative leader Kerry-Lynne Findlay. Eby argued that a renewed mandate was needed to respond to economic threats from U.S. President Donald Trump. Daily Hive reported he waited too long before making the call.

Eby retained his own seat in [Vancouver-Point Grey](/bc/provincial-2026/races/mla/vancouver-point-grey), according to Daily Hive. The article reported a $13.8 billion deficit as a factor the NDP carried into the campaign.

As of 11:28 p.m. Pacific on October 24, 2026, Elections BC reported the BC NDP leading in 27 of 93 districts with 658,816 votes and 37.36% of the vote counted, with 98.13% of ballot boxes reporting. The Conservative Party of BC led in 64 districts with 847,258 votes and 48.05%.

Daily Hive reported the Conservative win as the first Conservative majority in British Columbia since 1933. The NDP had held government since 2017. Conservative leader Lorne Doerkson will become the province's next premier.

These results are preliminary. Elections BC says vote-by-mail, assisted telephone, and absentee ballots will be counted about two weeks after election day. The final count is set for November 6, 2026. Follow the count at Elections BC, which updates every few minutes.
