BC NDP leader [David Eby](/bc/provincial-2026/candidates/david-eby) asked Green Party voters on October 18 to reconsider their choice, saying [Emily Lowan](/bc/provincial-2026/candidates/emily-lowan) will not be premier after October 24. CityNews Vancouver, in a report by The Canadian Press, carried the remarks after Eby spoke at a campaign stop in Campbell River, B.C. with six days left before voting day.

Eby said he respects Lowan but that the Green vote costs the NDP seats. He claimed Green support was the deciding factor between a Conservative and a New Democrat winning in 11 ridings in the last election, including the North Island riding where he was speaking. That figure is Eby's own stated claim, as reported by The Canadian Press. voche.me has not checked it against Elections BC's published results.

"I have a great deal of respect for their leader, and she is not going to be premier next week," Eby said. "The damage that a Conservative government would do would last for generations, and some of it would be impossible to undo."

Eby acknowledged that neither his party nor he himself have been perfect and that many people are frustrated about the timing of the snap election. He said the differences between the NDP and Greens are small compared to what he described as their common ground on the future of the province. He said voters who share that common vision do better, in his view, when they vote together rather than splitting between the two parties.

When a reporter asked whether appealing to Green voters meant the NDP was trailing, Eby said the only poll that matters happens on election day.
