The Conservative Party of BC published a BC Ferries platform on October 11, 2026, promising a charter that would set performance and affordability standards for the ferry service. The claims below are the party's, based on its own announcement page.

Leader [Lorne Doerkson](/bc/provincial-2026/candidates/lorne-doerkson) made the announcement in Vancouver alongside Ryan Windsor, the party's candidate for Saanich North and the Islands. The party's announcement says British Columbians face cancelled sailings, overloaded routes, and long waits. It blames the current BC NDP government for what it calls nine years of ferry service problems. These are the party's characterizations; BC Ferries itself has not commented on them.

## What the party is promising

The main item is a BC Ferries Charter. The party says the Charter would establish standards for reliability, on-time performance, capacity, affordability, and customer service, and would hold BC Ferries leadership accountable for meeting them. The party also says it would restructure the BC Ferries board to reduce what it calls duplication, so more resources go to service rather than administration.

On funding, the party says a Conservative government would negotiate with Ottawa to secure what it calls BC's fair share of federal ferry funding. The announcement does not state a target amount or what figure the party considers fair.

On technology, the party says it would bring high-speed Wi-Fi to major routes and terminals through private-sector contracts using satellite or cellular technology. No specific routes, providers, or timeline appear in the announcement.

## What voters can compare

The BC NDP published its own BC Ferries plan the same day, October 11. The NDP plan focuses on local residents: reserving 12 per cent of advance booking space on two pilot routes for people who live in ferry-dependent communities. That plan is covered separately on this site.

Neither the Conservatives nor the NDP have published a cost for their ferry plans. The BC Greens have also spoken about ferries in this campaign, with promises around electric vessels and additional federal funding; their positions are at [/bc/provincial-2026/parties](/bc/provincial-2026/parties).
