The BC NDP says it would commit $250 million in provincial money toward a 19-km bus rapid transit line along King George Boulevard in Surrey if the party forms government after the 24 October election. Daily Hive reported the announcement on 15 October 2026, citing BC NDP leader David Eby.

The line would run from SkyTrain's Surrey Central Station south to Semiahmoo Town Centre in South Surrey, with 12 stations, dedicated bus lanes, signal priority and weather-protected stops, Daily Hive reported. TransLink estimates an end-to-end travel time of about 40 minutes, and projects ridership of more than 25,000 riders per day by 2035. The R1 RapidBus, which runs part of the same corridor, currently records about 14,000 daily boardings.

The $250 million provincial figure is the party's own commitment. The BC NDP says the contribution would help secure additional federal funding. TransLink estimates construction and implementation would take three to five years after funding is secured, Daily Hive reported.

## What the party says the line would include

The BRT design calls for dedicated bus-only lanes along the corridor and signal priority at intersections, according to Daily Hive. Stations would have weather protection. The route would replace and extend the existing R1 service to reach Semiahmoo Town Centre, which the R1 does not currently serve as its southern terminus.

## The BC Bus Pass commitment

Alongside the BRT announcement, the BC NDP says it would make the BC Bus Pass free for 350,000 low-income seniors, Daily Hive reported. People enrolled in the program currently pay an annual fee of $45, the party said.
