The BC NDP published a platform commitment on October 21, 2026 to reduce gas prices and restrict several pricing practices the party says harm consumers. The package, which the party calls Price Guard, was announced on the party's own website.

Every figure and claim below reflects what the party says.

## What the party says it would do

The BC NDP says it would drive down the price of gas by as much as 30 cents a litre. The release does not say which legislation the party would pass or how quickly prices would fall.

The party also says it would:

- Prohibit resellers and bots from charging above face value for entertainment and concert tickets on secondary sites, with penalties for violations.
- Strengthen privacy and consumer protection laws to stop corporations from using personal data to set prices, and give the Information and Privacy Commissioner powers to levy monetary penalties.
- Require manufacturers to give consumers and independent repair shops access to replacement parts, tools, software, and repair information, and ban planned obsolescence.
- Restrict non-compete clauses in employment contracts.

BC NDP leader [David Eby](/bc/provincial-2026/candidates/david-eby) said in the release: "British Columbians are already feeling the squeeze. The last thing you need is big corporations manipulating prices in ways you can't even see. We will stop these predatory practices. Because I believe it is the government's responsibility to set the rules of the road so you don't get unfairly ripped off or manipulated."

## What the announcement does not say

The party's release does not say which legislation it would introduce for any of these commitments, which industries would be covered under the Right to Repair rules, or on what timeline gas prices would fall. No response from the Conservative Party of BC or the BC Greens to this announcement was found in published reporting at the time this article was written.

The release also says Conservative leader Lorne Doerkson has "a secret deal with personal injury lawyers that would double car insurance rates." That is the NDP's own claim about a named opponent. No response from Doerkson or the Conservative Party of BC to that claim was found in published reporting at the time this article was written.
