British Columbians started casting advance ballots on October 16, 2026, without a full costed platform from the Conservative Party of BC, Global News reported that day.

Conservative leader Lorne Doerkson said at a Port Moody campaign stop that he had seen the document but wanted to make sure the party was not committing to anything it could not deliver. "We're working on it, but I want it to be right," Doerkson said. "I want the numbers to be right and I want to know with an absolute clear conscience that the things that we are promising British Columbians in that platform, we will be able to achieve."

Earlier in the week, Doerkson had told reporters that voters would see a "fulsome plan" before election day. Advance polls run from October 16 through October 21, seven days before final voting day on October 24.

## Why the delay

Doerkson said he wanted to avoid repeating what he described as the NDP's broken commitments from the last election, including a promised doctor for every resident who wants one and a $1,000 rebate. "None of those things happened, and our deficit is now $14 billion," he said, explaining the timing.

The NDP and the BC Greens both released costed platforms earlier in the week of October 13, Global News reported.

## What Eby said

NDP leader [David Eby](/bc/provincial-2026/candidates/david-eby) made a campaign stop nearby in Coquitlam on the same day. Eby said the Conservatives had not explained how they would pay for promises he put at $5 billion in total.

"Now, you might think to yourself, 'Well, that's weird, why wouldn't he explain it?'" Eby said at the campaign stop. "It's not that he doesn't know the answer. He knows the answer of how he's going to pay for that $5 billion. He is going to pay for it the same way that conservative parties in B.C. have always paid for these promises, by cutting the services that you and your family depend on."

The Conservatives have not responded to that claim, according to the Global News report.

## What Conservative promises have been announced

The Conservatives have announced several individual commitments during the campaign, including an income tax cut of up to $1,000 a year for what [Lorne Doerkson](/bc/provincial-2026/candidates/lorne-doerkson) described as "nearly every working British Columbian," a new women's and children's hospital in Surrey, and replacing the George Massey Tunnel with a ten-lane bridge. A full document showing all promises together with costs and funding sources had not been released as of October 16.

Advance polls are open now through October 21 at locations across BC. You can find your voting place through Elections BC at [elections.bc.ca/voting/where-to-vote](https://elections.bc.ca/voting/where-to-vote/), and see all parties and candidates at [/bc/provincial-2026](/bc/provincial-2026).
