Anna Kindy, the re-elected Conservative MLA for [North Island](/bc/provincial-2026/races/mla/north-island), laid out five priorities for her second term in an interview with the Campbell River Mirror, published by the North Island Gazette on October 29.

Kindy won re-election on October 24 with 12,071 votes. NDP candidate Sara Lopez came second with 10,695 votes. Kindy said the result was more decisive than her 2024 win, when she first took the North Island riding, which had been NDP-held since 2005.

"I am honored that the constituents of the North Island voted me in for a second term," Kindy said. She told the North Island Gazette that many voters in the riding named affordability as a key concern during door-knocking.

## Health care in the riding

Kindy said her first health care goal is to establish 24-hour emergency room services in Port Hardy. The ER there has been closed after 5 p.m. for more than three and a half years, according to Kindy.

Her second health care priority is to address overcapacity at the Campbell River hospital. She also said she wants to increase the number of long-term care beds available in the riding and expand support for people who want to age at home.

## Jobs and the local economy

Kindy said protecting private sector employment in resource industries such as forestry is a priority. She described the forestry sector as an economic driver that funds schools and hospitals in the riding.

On affordability, she said she wants to help parents in the riding afford homes for their children. She also listed building a new Cedar Elementary School as a goal for the term.

## What she said about the election call

Kindy said former NDP leader David Eby's snap election call was "cynical and self-serving at best" and also "disrespectful to the municipalities," noting it coincided with the provincial election and the October 17 municipal elections.
