She worked as a constituency assistant to the late NDP MLA Dan Coulter and has spent more than two years working with local community organizations in the riding, according to the Progress report.

"I believe our riding deserves an alternative to the views and ideology guiding our current MLA's Conservative Party," De Jaeger said, according to the Progress.

## What Shaukat says she will focus on

According to the Chilliwack Progress, Shaukat says she would focus on health care, public safety, affordable housing, and bringing costs down for residents. These priorities are stated in her campaign biography and reflect the positions she says she carried from her work in the community.

The riding of Chilliwack North has been held by the Conservatives. Maahs, the current MLA, is seeking another term. The BC NDP has said it is fielding candidates in 92 of the province's 93 ridings, having been unable to file a candidate in Peace River North before the October 3 deadline.
