01 / Introduction

## About Warren Mirko

Elections BC lists Warren Mirko as the Conservative Party of BC candidate in Kootenay-Monashee. The same list shows Connie Larochelle (BC Green Party) and Steve Morissette (BC NDP). In 2024 Morissette won the district with 10,202 votes (52.04 percent). The Conservative candidate then, Glen Byle, had 7,616 votes (38.85 percent), and Donovan Cavers (BC Green Party) had 1,785 (9.11 percent). Warren Mirko is not in the 2024 statement of votes for this district.

On 21 September 2026 the chief election officer of the Village of Warfield declared four people elected as councillors, Warren Mirko among them. The Village's list of candidates named four people for the four councillor seats, so there was no vote. Castlegar News calls him a Warfield councillor who was acclaimed (elected with no opponent), and the Conservative Party of BC page says he is a councillor. The Village's council page and the minutes of its eight regular meetings from 12 January to 10 August 2026 name a mayor and four councillors, and Warren Mirko is not among them. voche.me has not found when his term starts, so this page gives him no current role.

Public Land Use Society (PLUS) lists him as its executive director and founder. The society says it works to keep Crown land (public land the province owns) open for recreation, resource work and economic growth, and to make land decisions open to the public. Its own page and the National Post and The Hub author notes carry his biography, which says he has more than 15 years of experience in public relations, crisis response and risk management. A BC Financial Services Authority news release dated 7 February 2024 names him as its Communications Manager and media contact. The Vancouver Sun printed his commentary on TransLink fare evasion in September 2024 and described him as a regulatory and public affairs consultant. Of the roles in his biography, these are the ones voche.me matched to a source outside his own pages.

He has written on who holds authority over land in BC. In a Times Colonist commentary with the lawyer Geoffrey S. Moyse (27 November 2025) he argues that the provincial government treats Indigenous ownership claims as settled in places where no court has said so. In December 2025, as PLUS executive director, he called for the repeal of the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (DRIPA), the provincial law that adopts the United Nations declaration on Indigenous rights. These are his published opinions, and voche.me has found no statement in which his campaign repeats that call.

Castlegar News reported on 1 October 2026 that he announced his candidacy on 28 September. It quotes his announcement saying that decisions made in Victoria can have a disproportionate impact on rural BC, and it says he has criticized the provincial government's spending and deficit increases. The article gives no quote or date for that criticism. voche.me has not contacted the campaign.

### Repeal the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (DRIPA)

As executive director of the Public Land Use Society he said DRIPA, the provincial law that adopts the United Nations declaration on Indigenous rights, must be repealed. The society's release of 15 December 2025 asked the government to repeal it in full.

## Policies, budgets & programs

The Village of Warfield declared him elected on 21 September 2026. His term start was not found, so no council record exists to review yet.

Sep 21Declared by the Village's chief election officer

### Declared elected as a Village of Warfield councillor

The chief election officer named Doug Bruce, Erika Krest, Raymond Masleck and Warren Mirko as the councillors elected, and Frank Marino as mayor. The Village's list of candidates of 11 September 2026 named four people for the four councillor seats.

<details>

<summary>Scope, limits and sources

The declaration says nothing on when the term starts. The Village's minutes through 10 August 2026 list the council that sat then, and he is not on it. A village council seat is a local office, so this entry earns no score.

No campaign website, platform page naming him, party news release or all-candidates meeting was found on 2026-10-03. The party's platform page lists plan titles, says the platform is coming soon and does not name him. His LinkedIn page showed only a sign-in wall, so nothing from it is used. His X account was read on this date, and no Facebook or Instagram account of his campaign was found. The party page and the Public Land Use Society page both say he is a Warfield councillor. The Village's declaration shows he was elected, and its council page and minutes through 10 August 2026 do not list him, so voche.me did not find the date his term starts. The Village's minutes of 8 September 2026 were not yet published. His claims of 15 years of work at BC Financial Services Authority, Engineers and Geoscientists BC and Transport Canada, and of a BA in Political Science from the University of British Columbia, come from his party page and the Public Land Use Society page. Only the BC Financial Services Authority role, in a release of 7 February 2024, was matched to a source outside his own pages. Its About Us page, read on 2026-10-03, lists him as executive director and founder, and voche.me did not find whether he has stepped aside. The society's page lists a further Vancouver Sun commentary by him and Geoffrey S. Moyse on the provincial Crown land strategy with no date, and voche.me did not find the Sun's own copy, so it is not used. A National Post author note says he contributes to the Macdonald-Laurier Institute, and no source from the institute was checked. Evidence reviewed on 2026-10-03: the Elections BC candidate list and key dates, the 2024 statement of votes, the Conservative Party of BC candidate, team and platform pages, the Village of Warfield's council page, candidate lists, declaration of election and eight sets of council minutes, Castlegar News, his X account, the Public Land Use Society website and news releases, his commentary in the Vancouver Sun, Times Colonist, National Post and The Hub, and a BC Financial Services Authority news release.

No campaign website, platform page naming him, all-candidates meeting or party news release was found on this date. His LinkedIn page showed only a sign-in wall, so nothing from it is used. The name search was limited because the search tool had reached its daily limit: results came from a public search page and from direct reads of each source. Elections BC closed nominations at 1 p.m. PT on October 3, so the list could still have changed that day. An empty section records only that voche.me found nothing on this date.
