01 / Introduction

## About Ward Stamer

Ward Stamer is the Conservative Party of BC candidate in Kamloops-North Thompson on the Elections BC candidate list read on October 3, 2026, and the sitting member for the district. The Elections BC statement of votes shows that he won Kamloops-North Thompson in 2024 with 17,930 votes, 59.74% of the valid vote. The legislature lists him as the member for Kamloops-North Thompson in the Conservative Party of British Columbia. The Elections BC list prints his affiliation as Conservative Party, which the register of political parties of October 3, 2026 gives as the ballot name of the Conservative Party of British Columbia. The records show one party under two forms of its name.

The legislature was dissolved for the election. His X profile says he was the MLA until dissolution on September 22, 2026, and CFJC reported on September 23 that the election call came on Tuesday of that week.

Before he became an MLA he was Mayor of Barriere. Radio NL reported in October 2024 that he was first elected mayor in 2018, was acclaimed in 2022 and resigned on Monday, October 21, 2024. It quotes him saying he was first elected to the Barriere Improvement District in 1996, and reports that he was one of the original District councillors after Barriere was incorporated in 2007. A provincial release of February 3, 2023 quotes him as mayor of the District of Barriere. In debate on April 15, 2026 he said he has 40-plus years of logging operational experience.

In the transcript of May 25, 2026 he said he took on the Forests critic portfolio after his election. A critic is the opposition member who questions the government on one subject. The Conservative caucus page, which belongs to the party’s members of the legislature, calls him Shadow Minister for Forests and Official Opposition Critic for Forests, and the legislature’s member record lists no critic roles. On May 20, 2026 the chair of the Democratic and Electoral Reform Special Committee thanked the Deputy Chair, the member for Kamloops-North Thompson, in presenting the committee’s report on the 2024 election. In 2026 he introduced and moved the Dashboard Cameras in Commercial Vehicles Act, spoke at length on the forests bill (Bill 14), and voted nay on Budget 2026, the Supply Act, the freedom of information bill and the K’ómoks Treaty Act.

The Conservative Party of BC candidate page says he has been a Lions Club member for more than three decades and that as mayor he oversaw water system upgrades and growth of the business and industrial park. It lists his priorities as health care access, affordable housing, economic stability and promoting forestry and other resource industries. Those are the party’s statements about him.

### More timber access and faster forestry permits

In a statement on March 9, 2026, Stamer said forest companies need long-term certainty to invest in modern mills, new technology and a stable workforce, and called for active forest management that includes responsible harvesting, reforestation and better wildfire mitigation. In the budget debate on February 24, 2026 he said permitting, which he put at $3 or $4 a cubic metre in the past, has tripled in a few years, and that the province must be cost-competitive in forestry. On February 2, 2026 ArmchairMayor.ca reported his call for action on fibre access, permit delays and cost pressures.

### Oversight of the contingency fund

In the budget debate on February 24, 2026, Stamer objected to a $1 billion contingency fund that he said needs no oversight in the House, and to a $400 million investment fund that he said his side calls a slush fund, his term for money with little oversight.

### Delay the freedom of information bill by six months

On April 21, May 4 and May 6, 2026, Stamer spoke on Bill 9, which changes the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, and said it risks shifting the balance away from the public’s right to know. In the sitting of May 6, which ran past 3 a.m. on May 7, he supported a motion to delay second reading by six months. That motion failed 42 to 48, and the vote index lists him voting yes on it, nay at second reading and nay at third reading on May 28, 2026. ### Clearer rules on DRIPA and treaty overlaps

In debate on the K’ómoks Treaty Act (Bill 20) on May 19, 2026, Stamer said unresolved overlapping territorial claims and the provincial government’s use of the United Nations declaration on Indigenous rights in law, through the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (DRIPA), create uncertainty. He said reconciliation should reduce conflict. In March 2026 CFJC quoted him asking for a chance to discuss changes to DRIPA before they are announced. On April 22, 2026 the vote index lists him voting yes on first reading of a bill to repeal DRIPA, which the House rejected 44 to 47.

### Photograph taken in the chamber

On April 15, 2026, after question period, Hon. Ravi Kahlon told the Speaker that the member for Kamloops-North Thompson had been seen on the Hansard video using his device and apparently taking photos in the chamber, which the rules prohibit. Stamer said, “Yes, Mr. Speaker, I did take a picture.” He said that when Hansard shows the person doing “the hearing-impaired thing”, that person blocks pictures of his side of the House and not of the other side.

#### Candidate or party response

He answered “Yes, Mr. Speaker, I did take a picture” and, when the Speaker asked him to state that he agreed to delete it, “Yes, Mr. Speaker. I agree.”

#### Verified status and limits

The Speaker said no justification is needed because taking pictures in the chamber is prohibited, and directed that any picture or recording taken be deleted and not used. The transcript records no further step. A Castanet Kamloops article on the incident answered HTTP 403 and was not read.

Four Castanet Kamloops articles (on his 2024 election, his 2024 candidacy, his unity statement of September 21, 2026 and the party’s search for candidates) answered HTTP 403 to a direct read and, for two of them, to a read through the WebFetch tool. Two more Castanet articles, on the photograph in the chamber and on forestry and salvage logging, answered HTTP 403 and were not read. None of the six is used. His X profile shows its bio and recent posts with a month and day and no year, so those posts are not used. Only the statement dated 09/21.26 is used, and only its first lines are visible. His Facebook page returned a redirect with no text and his Instagram page returned only a title. He has no campaign website of his own: the link in his X bio leads to the party candidate page, and wardstamer.ca shows a parked domain page. The legislature’s member record lists no critic roles. His title as Forests critic comes from his own words in the May 25, 2026 transcript and from the caucus page, which calls him Shadow Minister for Forests. The Deputy Chair title of the Democratic and Electoral Reform Special Committee comes from the committee chair’s words in the transcript of May 20, 2026. The 2026 vote index lists 49 recorded votes for him. This page describes 26 of them and leaves out 23: seven votes at committee stage of Bill 9, the first reading of Bill M235 and of Bill M241, two votes on Bill 16, five votes on procedural motions, Motion M203, third reading of Bill 6, second reading of Bill M226, two votes on amendments to Bill 11 and two on amendments to Bill 5. The speech index also lists his statements on Bill M231 and his introductions of guests, which are not described. The transcripts were read where the indexes place his speeches and votes. His 2025 speeches were not reviewed, and only the first reading of Bill M217 on October 23, 2025 was opened from 2025. The text of the Dashboard Cameras in Commercial Vehicles Act was not opened. The 28 news items on the caucus page were not opened, except the statement of February 2, 2026 through ArmchairMayor.ca. The party platform page says the platform is coming soon and does not name him. No 2026 all-candidates meeting for Kamloops-North Thompson was found. His 2021 bid for the federal Conservative nomination, mentioned in a Radio NL photo caption, was not researched. His campaign finances for 2026 and endorsements were not reviewed. The questionnaire has not been sent.

Research status

## What voche.me has checked

Evidence reviewed on 2026-10-03: the Elections BC candidate list read on October 3, 2026, the 2024 statement of votes and the register of political parties, the legislature’s party standings record, its 2026 speech index and vote index, 38 transcripts, one government release that quotes him, the Conservative Party of BC candidate page, member page and platform page, the Conservative caucus page, his X profile, and 8 news reports from 2024 to 2026.

The legislature lists him in the Conservative Party of British Columbia and the Elections BC list prints Conservative Party. The register of political parties gives Conservative Party as the ballot name of the Conservative Party of British Columbia. voche.me found no change of party. His X profile says he was the MLA until the legislature was dissolved on September 22, 2026.

His commitments on this page come from what he said in the legislature in 2026 and from a government record of his votes. The party platform entries are the party’s own text. The accountability section holds one rules matter from the House, decided by the Speaker. The research gaps section lists the pages that could not be read.
