The BC NDP announced him as its candidate on September 26, 2026, according to the North Delta Reporter. The paper reports that the outgoing MLA, Ravi Kahlon, endorsed him in a social media post. Kahlon won Delta North in 2024 for the BC NDP with 10,988 votes (52.73 percent), according to Elections BC's statement of votes. Todd Schierling was not a candidate in 2024. BC's Municipal Pension Plan lists him as a trustee on its board, appointed by the BC Professional Fire Fighters' Association and the BC Police Association. Its profile says he became president of the fire fighters' association in June 2023, after serving as its secretary-treasurer from 2016 to 2023, and that he has worked for Surrey Fire Service since 1996 as a captain. The association's report on its June 2025 convention says he was acclaimed as president again.
