## About Shila Taheri

Elections BC lists Shila Taheri as the BC Green Party candidate in Burnaby Centre. On the copy of the list stamped October 3, 2026 7:00:07 PM, which is after nominations closed at 1 p.m. that day, the district shows three names: Vikas Gautam (CentreBC), Anne Kang (BC NDP) and Shila Taheri (BC Green Party). Anne Kang is the sitting member for the district.

Her BC Green Party candidate page calls her a labour leader, legal researcher, published author and human rights advocate. The page says she holds an LL.M. in International Business Law and an LL.B., has studied immigration and labour law in Canada, and has represented workers in grievances, workplace disputes and investigations through her union. These are the campaign's statements, and voche.me has not checked them with a university or a publisher.

The BC General Employees' Union (BCGEU) lists her on its Component 8 executive page as Recording Secretary, with Local 803 beside her name. Her party page also gives her titles as First Vice-Chair of Local 803 and Chair of the Component 8 Membership Committee. The union's election notice of February 24, 2025 lists her as one of three nominees for First Vice Chairperson of Local 803 and does not show the result.

In 2024 the BC Green Party had no candidate in Burnaby Centre, according to Elections BC's statement of votes. Anne Kang won for the BC NDP with 9,780 votes (57.28 percent), and Dharam Kajal of the Conservative Party received 7,294 votes (42.72 percent). BC Ballot says it found no earlier run for Shila Taheri. voche.me has not contacted the campaign.

No campaign website of her own, news report about her candidacy, all-candidates meeting or endorsement was found on 2026-10-03. The name search was limited: the WebSearch tool had reached its usage limit, DuckDuckGo and Google returned no results to automated reads, and Bing and Google News returned the pages listed here. Her Instagram account (shila.taheri.bc, linked by her party page) could not be opened because it asks visitors to log in. A Facebook page, a second Instagram account and a LinkedIn people directory that carry the name Shila Taheri appeared in search results. No page that was opened ties them to the candidate, so none is used. The two LinkedIn articles are used because her party page links the LinkedIn account that published them. Her union titles First Vice-Chair of Local 803 and Chair of the Component 8 Membership Committee come from her party page only: the BCGEU notice of February 24, 2025 lists her as a nominee and gives no result, and no union page lists the committee role. Her LL.M. and LL.B. degrees, her studies in immigration and labour law, and her books and articles were not checked with a university or publisher, and no book was found. The BC Green Party's plan page says its full platform is coming soon. No municipal, school board or other minutes search applies, because no public role is on record for her. The questionnaire has not been sent.

## What voche.me has checked

Evidence reviewed on 2026-10-03: the Elections BC candidate list, key dates page and 2024 statement of votes; her BC Green Party candidate page, the party's plan page and the party's site search; the BCGEU Component 8 executive page and its Local 803 election notice; two LinkedIn articles published by the account her party page links; the BC Ballot page for Burnaby Centre; and name searches. The name search was limited: the WebSearch tool had reached its usage limit, so voche.me used Bing, Google News and the party's site search directly. Her Instagram account could not be opened because it asks visitors to log in, so nothing from it is used.

No campaign website of her own, news report or policy statement in her own words was found. The commitments below are the BC Green Party's platform text, which names no candidate. An empty section records what voche.me did not find on this date. The candidate may have published material that these searches did not reach.
