## About Sheila Malcolmson

Sheila Malcolmson is the BC NDP candidate in Nanaimo-Gabriola Island on Elections BC's list for the general election of October 24, 2026. She won the district in 2024 with 14,663 votes, 52.75% of the valid vote, according to the Elections BC statement of votes.

The House of Commons record shows her as the NDP Member of Parliament for Nanaimo-Ladysmith from October 19, 2015 to January 2, 2019. CBC News reported in December 2018 that she was the NDP candidate in a provincial by-election in Nanaimo and would have to resign as an MP to run. The legislature record lists her election years as 2019, 2020 and 2024, and shows her as Minister of Social Development and Poverty Reduction from November 18, 2024.

In the legislature in 2026 she answered questions on food costs, food bank use, disability assistance rates and poverty among seniors, and she answered for her ministry's budget in the estimates debate. On April 16, 2026 she tabled the annual report on the poverty reduction strategy, which she said shows overall poverty down 30 percent since 2016.

Her campaign page says she has been elected four times by her community. In a statement printed by NanaimoNewsNOW in September 2026, she said she has represented people in Nanaimo at the Islands Trust, in federal Parliament and in the legislature. Those are her own and the campaign's statements.

Her X, Facebook and Instagram pages showed no readable posts to a direct read. Her BC NDP caucus page answered HTTP 503. The estimates debates were read for her answers on rates, targets and Community Living BC, not line by line. The 2024 poverty reduction annual report itself was not opened. Votes are taken from the vote index only; the transcripts of those votes were not opened. Her 2019 by-election result and her Islands Trust role were not checked against official records. Her roles in cabinet before November 2024 were not checked. No 2026 all-candidates meeting for Nanaimo-Gabriola Island was found.
