## About Rosalyn Bird

Rosalyn Bird is the Conservative Party candidate in Prince George-Valemount on Elections BC's list for the general election of October 24, 2026. Carol Bourque of the BC NDP is the other accepted candidate on the copy of the list stamped October 1, 2026 02:00:07 PM. She won the district in 2024 with 9,018 votes, 55.19% of the valid vote, ahead of Clay Pountney of the BC NDP with 5,709 and Gwen Johansson of the BC Green Party with 1,612, according to the Elections BC statement of votes.

Her member page on the legislature website says she joined the Canadian Forces in 1990 as a boatswain, became a resource management clerk, and was commissioned as a naval logistics officer in 2005. In a statement in the legislature on March 5, 2026 she said she served 23 years. These are her own accounts.

Conservative caucus releases named her Critic for Children and Family Development on October 1, 2025, and Critic for Community Safety on June 30, 2026. In February 2026 the legislature appointed her to the special committee reviewing the Lobbyists Transparency Act.

Global News reported that on July 29, 2026 she said she had been asked to step down so that the new leader, Kerry-Lynne Findlay, could run for a seat, and that she said no. On August 25 she left the Conservative caucus to sit as an Independent. In her written statement, quoted by Black Press Media, she said political parties "are vehicles for our values: they cannot be substitutes for them." She told CKPG she was unhappy with the lack of communication and direction in the party.

On September 4 she and four other former Conservative MLAs said they were forming a new party, the Rocky Mountain Goat reported. On September 18 she was one of the MLAs who joined CentreBC, according to Vista Radio and Victoria News. On September 22, after Findlay resigned as leader, she returned to the Conservatives. She told My Prince George Now that under interim leader Lorne Doerkson there has been a shift to more moderate policy priorities. The legislature's member record still lists her as Independent on 2026-10-01.

In the legislature in 2026 she asked questions on autism funding, the rural retention incentive for health workers, psychiatric beds in the North, security at a Terrace shelter, crime against businesses and the northern and rural homeowner benefit. She spoke and voted against the budget bill (Bill 2) and the freedom of information bill (Bill 9). Her own bill, the Veterans and First Responders Month Act (Bill M231), passed third reading on May 4, 2026.

In August 2026 she presented a proposal for an inland port and defence logistics base in Prince George to a City of Prince George committee. City Council later gave it support in principle, two local outlets reported.

No campaign website of her own was found on 2026-10-01; rosalynbird.ca and rosalynbird.com did not answer. The X account @RosalynBirdMLA linked from the party page returned HTTP 404, and the Instagram account rosalynbirdmlaofficial showed only a sign-in page, so nothing from either is used. Four Prince George Citizen articles (her departure, her new-party plans, the private investigator story, and OneBC's candidate) returned HTTP 403 and were not read, and the Internet Archive could not be reached. The party's candidate page labels her "Interim Conservative Party Leader"; the party's team page names Lorne Doerkson as leader and lists Bird only as the Prince George-Valemount candidate, so voche.me does not repeat that label. The party page also says she served as Official Opposition Whip and as critic for Citizens' Services and for Armed Forces Development and Veteran Affairs. voche.me has not confirmed these roles from an official record or a caucus release. Her military career comes from her own member page and her own statements; voche.me has not checked it with the Department of National Defence. The City of Prince George minutes for the August 10, 2026 committee meeting and the Council resolution on the inland port were not opened. Her 2025 speeches and votes were not reviewed; only the 2026 indexes were read. Estimates debates where she spoke were read only for her own questions. Whether Bill M231 has become law (royal assent) was not checked. All-candidates meetings in Prince George-Valemount, campaign finances and endorsements were not found on this date. Nominations close October 3, 2026, so other candidates may still be added. The questionnaire has not been sent.

Research status

## What voche.me has checked

Evidence reviewed on 2026-10-01: the Elections BC candidate list and 2024 statement of votes, the legislature's member record, its 2026 speech and vote indexes, 18 transcripts from 2026 where she spoke, the party candidate, team, platform and news pages, two caucus releases, and news reports from August and September 2026.

Her commitments on this page come mostly from what she said in the legislature in 2026, plus her inland port proposal. No campaign website of her own was found. Sections with no entry record that voche.me found nothing on this date.
