## About Rohini Reah Arora

Rohini Reah Arora is the BC NDP candidate in Burnaby East on Elections BC's candidate list dated October 3, 2026, and the sitting member for the riding. The Elections BC statement of votes shows that she won Burnaby East for the BC NDP in 2024 with 10,490 votes, 51.85% of the valid vote. The legislature lists her as the member for Burnaby East, elected in 2024, under the name Rohini Arora. The BC NDP campaign page names her as Rohini Arora, the Burnaby East candidate, and says she was first elected in 2024.

The name on the ballot is Rohini Reah Arora. The Elections BC list dated October 3, 2026 at 10:00 pm Pacific time (PT) prints Rohini Reah Arora. The 2024 statement of votes prints Reah Arora. In a post dated November 13, 2024 (PT) she wrote that she had been sworn in as MLA that day and had reclaimed her name Rohini. Earlier copies of the Elections BC candidate list for 2026 printed Rohini (Reah) Arora (read 2026-09-29), Reah Arora (dated September 30, 2026 at 9:00 pm PT) and Rohini Arora (dated October 2, 2026 at 10:00 pm PT). The legislature and her campaign page use Rohini Arora.

Burnaby Now reported in June 2024 that she grew up in Burnaby's Westridge neighbourhood and worked as Director of Organizing at the BC Federation of Labour. The same report says she ran for Burnaby City Council in 2022 with the Burnaby Citizens Association and finished 380 votes short of a seat. A CUPE Local 15 page carries a message signed by her as Director of Organizing and Campaigns at the BC Federation of Labour, and an SFU David Lam Centre event page filed under 2022 gives the same title in her speaker biography. In the legislature in April 2026 she said she was on political leave from the BC Federation of Labour and a member of United Steelworkers Local 2009.

In 2025, government releases from March to November quote her as parliamentary secretary for child care. In 2026 she spoke in the legislature on the provincial budget, the Burnaby Hospital redevelopment, schools and post-secondary projects in Burnaby, the K'ómoks Treaty Act, freedom of information changes, trades training and artificial intelligence. She described herself in the budget debate as deputy chair of the government caucus. Hansard records her in the chair of House committee sittings on 8 dates between March 11 and May 25, 2026, and in May 2026 she presented the annual report of the Select Standing Committee on Children and Youth.

Her campaign page says she served as Director of Organizing and Campaigns at the BC Federation of Labour and has worked with young people on civic engagement for more than ten years. Those are the campaign's own statements.

### Statement on the words settler, uninvited guest and colonizer

In a members' statement on May 15, 2025, Arora said she had heard Scott McInnis, MLA for Columbia River-Revelstoke, express discomfort in estimates (the committee review of a ministry's budget) with the terms settler, uninvited guest and colonizer. She urged all members to call themselves settlers. Later that morning McInnis raised a point of order, said her description of his remarks was inaccurate and invited her to withdraw. On June 15, 2026 the Western Standard published an article whose first sentence says a clip of the statement had resurfaced and drew widespread accusations of anti-white racism. Only the headline and that sentence of the article could be read.

#### Candidate or party response

In the House she said she was in estimates, heard those words, and would withdraw if there was a mistake. The transcript records her saying "I'd be happy to withdraw if there's a mistake, but that's what I heard." voche.me did not find a later statement from her on this.

### Burnaby Hospital phase 2 contract cancelled

On April 29, 2026 Misty Van Popta, the Conservative critic for infrastructure, said in question period that the construction contract for phase 2 of the Burnaby Hospital redevelopment had been cancelled. Minister of Infrastructure Bowinn Ma said the phase had been re-paced (rescheduled) and that the contract was being cancelled while planning continued. On May 4 Ma said the project is not cancelled. The Canadian Press reported that dozens of people rallied in a Burnaby park on May 24 against the cancellation. On February 24 Arora had told the House that the project would move forward and that the timing of phase 2 had been adjusted.

#### Candidate or party response

voche.me found no statement by Arora about the cancelled contract in the 2026 speech index, the transcripts or the news reports it opened. The government release of September 21, 2026 quotes her: "This is a welcome next step in building a bigger, better hospital that will support families living in Burnaby and surrounding communities for many years to come."

#### Verified status and limits

On September 21, 2026 the Province announced a renewed plan with $210 million for the emergency department and the surgical unit, with initial procurement (the purchasing process) to finish in early 2027. The release gives no cost or date for cancer care or the new acute-care tower, and says an independent report on the project made 25 recommendations.

The campaign page lists no events and no platform of her own, and its events search returned no results. Her Facebook and Instagram pages returned no readable text. Her X profile shows recent posts with a month and day and no year, so those posts are not used; two posts with full dates are used. Her LinkedIn page was not read. The Burnaby Now 2024 candidate profile answered HTTP 403 and was not read, and the BC NDP caucus page answered HTTP 503, so the caucus page was read from an Internet Archive copy of June 9, 2026. The legislature's member record lists no roles for her. Her role as deputy chair of the government caucus comes from her own words in debate, her campaign page and her caucus page. Her title on the Children and Youth Committee and the title for her place in the chair of House committee sittings are not stated in the sources opened. Government releases from March to November 2025 call her parliamentary secretary for child care; voche.me found no announcement of the appointment and no 2026 release that uses the title. The Western Standard articles of March 13 and June 15, 2026 load only a headline and a first sentence, so the transcripts are used instead. The Speaker's ruling on the point of order of May 15, 2025 was not found, and the estimates record where Scott McInnis spoke was not opened. Her 2022 vote count of 10,513 comes from Burnaby Now; the City of Burnaby's results page lists only the elected councillors, and its detailed results were not opened. Her union membership and her work at the BC Federation of Labour before 2024 come from her own biographies, a CUPE Local 15 page and an SFU event page; they were not checked with the BC Federation of Labour or United Steelworkers. The 2026 speech index lists no speech by her on Bill 12 or Bill 14, and the text of those bills was not opened. No 2026 all-candidates meeting for Burnaby East was found. Campaign finances for 2026 and endorsements were not reviewed. The questionnaire has not been sent. Added 2026-10-03: a Daily Hive headline of October 2, 2026 about a B.C. Conservative candidate whose name will also appear on a Burnaby civic ballot could not be opened and is not used. Her X posts, Facebook and Instagram pages were not read again on 2026-10-03.

Research status

## What voche.me has checked

Evidence reviewed on 2026-10-02: the 2024 statement of votes, the legislature's member record, its 2025 and 2026 speech indexes and 2026 vote index, 27 transcripts, 7 government releases that quote her, her campaign page, the BC NDP platform, releases and team pages, her X profile and two of her X posts, her signed opinion piece of September 2026, a CUPE Local 15 page, an SFU event page, a City of Burnaby results page, and news reports from 2024 and 2026.

Re-read on 2026-10-03: the Elections BC candidate list dated October 3, 2026 at 10:00 pm PT, her campaign page, the BC NDP platform page, the BC NDP releases page and the release of October 3 on its candidate team, the 2026 speech index and vote index, the Ministry of Infrastructure news page, and a search of BC Gov News for her name. The campaign page and the platform page hold the same text as on 2026-10-02. The two legislature indexes hold the same entries for her as on 2026-10-02, and neither lists an entry after Hansard issue 188 (May 28, 2026). The BC NDP release of October 3 names no individual candidate. The BC NDP caucus page answered HTTP 503 again.

The name on the ballot is Rohini Reah Arora. The Elections BC list dated October 3, 2026 at 10:00 pm PT prints Rohini Reah Arora. Earlier copies printed Rohini (Reah) Arora (read 2026-09-29), Reah Arora (dated September 30, 2026 at 9:00 pm PT) and Rohini Arora (dated October 2, 2026 at 10:00 pm PT). The 2024 statement of votes prints Reah Arora, and the legislature record and her campaign page print Rohini Arora. In a post dated November 13, 2024 (PT) she wrote that she had reclaimed her name Rohini. Source titles on this page keep the wording the source prints.

Her commitments on this page come from what she said in the legislature in 2026, her signed opinion piece and a government release that quotes her. The accountability section holds two public disputes, one over her words in the House in 2025 and one over the Burnaby Hospital contract. Neither is an official finding. The BC NDP platform page and her campaign page changed between 2026-09-30 and 2026-10-02, and the party entries on this page follow the text read on 2026-10-02 and again on 2026-10-03. One new item from 2026-10-03 is a news report that lists her among the MLAs at a community awards evening on October 2, 2026.
