## About Misty Van Popta

Misty Van Popta is the Conservative Party of BC candidate in Langley-Walnut Grove on Elections BC’s list for the general election of October 24, 2026. She won the district in 2024 with 12,121 votes, 49.56% of the valid vote, defeating the sitting member Megan Dykeman of the BC NDP, according to the Elections BC statement of votes.

The Canadian Press reported that she was elected to Township of Langley council in 2022 and lost that seat in May 2025, when a new law stopped MLAs from also serving on a council.

The Conservative caucus named her critic for Infrastructure, and in August 2026 also deputy whip, the Langley Advance Times reported. In the legislature in 2026 she asked about paused long-term care homes, Burnaby Hospital and health funding for Fraser Health. Her Bill M214, the Firefighters’ Health Act, passed on April 13, 2026, and BC Laws records Royal Assent on April 16.

The party candidate page says she grew up in Langley and works in construction project management, with a project management designation and studies at SFU. Those are the party’s own statements.

### Held a Township of Langley council seat while serving as MLA

Van Popta was elected to Township of Langley council in 2022 and kept the seat after her 2024 election to the legislature, drawing criticism from the BC NDP, The Canadian Press reported. She lost the council seat when the Eligibility to Hold Public Office Act came into effect in May 2025.

#### Candidate or party response

#### Verified status and limits

The law removed her from council. No official finding was made against her.

No campaign website of her own was found; the party candidate page is her campaign page. Her Facebook and Instagram pages show only a sign-in page, so nothing from them is used. The party candidate page labels her "Interim Conservative Party Leader"; no other source supports that label, so it is not used. Her education, her professional designation and her past jobs come only from the party page and were not checked with the issuing bodies. The Infrastructure estimates of February 26, 2026 and other estimates sittings in the committee room were not read. Recorded votes are taken from the vote index; most vote transcripts were not opened, and the result of the Bill M232 second reading was not checked. A party statement on the Pattullo Bridge returned HTTP 404. The BC Professional Fire Fighters pages on Bill M214 returned HTTP 404. Whether the Minister of Health has started the firefighter screening plan was not found. No 2026 all-candidates meeting for Langley-Walnut Grove was found; forums found by search were from 2024 or for the municipal election. The party platform page says the platform is coming soon. Campaign finances and endorsements were not reviewed. The questionnaire has not been sent.
