## About Lisa Beare

Lisa Beare is the BC NDP candidate in Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows on Elections BC’s list for the general election of October 24, 2026. She won the district in 2024 with 14,480 votes, 54.89% of the valid vote, against Mike Morden of the Conservative Party, according to the Elections BC statement of votes.

The legislature record lists her election years as 2017, 2020 and 2024, and shows her as Minister of Education and Child Care from November 18, 2024. The government named her Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture on July 18, 2017, and Minister of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills on February 20, 2024, after a term as Minister of Citizens’ Services.

In the legislature in 2026 she answered questions on school funding, education assistants, the pause to new $10-a-day child care enrolment, and school safety after the Tumbler Ridge shootings. In May 2026 the Province agreed to quash its orders removing the Victoria school board after the ministry failed to give the court all the documents it had ordered.

Her campaign page and her government biography say she grew up in Maple Ridge and began in politics in 2014 as a school board trustee. Those are her own statements.

### Collapse of the case over the fired Victoria school board

In January 2025 Beare removed the elected School District 61 board in Victoria, according to CBC News and The Canadian Press. The trustees challenged the firing in B.C. Supreme Court. On May 25, 2026, text messages between senior ministry officials, a Victoria police deputy chief and the special adviser were shown in court, and the Province agreed to quash its orders. Board chair Nicole Duncan called the claim of inadvertent errors “not believable,” CBC News reported. Conservative members asked in the legislature what the case cost taxpayers.

#### Candidate or party response

Beare said ministry staff told her the failure to produce all documents was inadvertent, called the errors significant, and denied any role in withholding documents. She said she would provide the costs when they were known.

#### Verified status and limits

The orders were quashed and the trustees reinstated, according to the government statement and CBC News. voche.me found no published cost figure on 2026-09-30.

The Hansard index entries for her introductions, her statement on Raj Chouhan and her tribute to Michael Sather were not read. The estimates transcripts were read for her answers only. Votes are taken from the vote index; the transcripts of those votes were not opened. Her roles from 2017 to 2024 were checked only against the 2017 cabinet release and the February 2024 appointment release; the start and end dates of her time as Minister of Citizens’ Services were not checked against an official record. Her school board term from 2014 is stated only in her campaign page and her government biography, and was not checked against School District 42 records. The BC NDP caucus page and an Island Social Trends report answered HTTP 503 and were not used. The cost of the School District 61 case was not found. No 2026 all-candidates meeting for Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows was found, and no other candidate for the district was on the Elections BC list on 2026-09-30. Campaign finances and endorsements were not reviewed. The questionnaire has not been sent.
