01 / Introduction

## About Kevin Acton

Elections BC's candidate list, stamped October 3, 2026 at 6:00:07 PM, shows three accepted nominations in Vernon-Lumby: Kevin Acton (Conservative Party), Chantel Gibbs (OneBC) and Harwinder Sandhu (BC NDP). Today in BC reports that the party appointed Acton as its candidate on Sunday, September 27, 2026, and that the Vernon-Lumby Conservative Riding Association welcomed the appointment.

The Village of Lumby's own councillors page lists Mayor Kevin Acton as first elected to council in 2008 and elected mayor in August 2009. It says he was re-elected in 2011 and 2022 and acclaimed in 2014 and 2018, and that he is a director of the Regional District of North Okanagan and of the Monashee Community Forest LLP. The 2026 Board of Directors page of the Regional District of North Okanagan lists Director Kevin Acton, with Randal Ostafichuk as alternate director. The Village's page lists Ostafichuk as a Lumby councillor and an alternate director of the regional district. The party's candidate page names the same mayor's role and the regional district seat as his.

The Village's declaration of candidates for the October 17, 2026 local election lists ACTON, Kevin (I) and Bradley Ulyn Charles Weston as candidates for mayor. The Village's elections page says the four councillor seats were acclaimed. Today in BC reports that Acton said on social media that if he is elected mayor and then MLA, he will personally cover the cost of a mayoral by-election in Lumby, to the extent the law permits. The same report says councillor Randal Ostafichuk has said on social media that he would seek the mayor's seat in such a by-election.

In 2024 the Elections BC statement of votes shows Acton in Vernon-Lumby as an unaffiliated candidate with 4,266 votes, 15.38 percent of the 27,729 valid votes. Harwinder Sandhu (BC NDP) won with 11,837 votes (42.69 percent), and Dennis Giesbrecht (Conservative Party) received 11,361 (40.97 percent). Today in BC reported in January 2025 that Acton had been the BC United candidate until that party suspended its campaign in late August 2024, that he then said he was ready to run under the Conservative banner if that party chose him, and that the Conservatives chose Giesbrecht instead.

The same January 2025 report says Acton filed a claim in small claims court against BC United on January 20, 2025, asking for $10,589.39 plus $176 in court fees for campaign expenses he paid and says the party did not reimburse. The report says BC United did not respond right away. voche.me did not find the outcome of the claim.

The party's candidate page says he has lived in the Vernon-Lumby area since 1991, is a registered massage therapist, has been a partner at Bloom Wellness Centre for more than 25 years, served six years as a paramedic with the B.C. Ambulance Service, and chairs the North Okanagan/Columbia Shuswap Regional Hospital District. These are the party's statements. voche.me has not checked them with the employers, the hospital district or the schools named.

### Pay for a Lumby mayoral by-election if elected to both offices

Today in BC reports that Acton said on social media that if he is elected mayor of Lumby on October 17 and then MLA for Vernon-Lumby on October 24, he will personally cover the cost of holding a mayoral by-election in Lumby, to the extent the law permits. A mayoral by-election is a Village of Lumby matter, so the pledge falls outside provincial office.

Today in BC quotes Acton saying the riding is his home, that he is ready to work hard, listen and earn residents' trust, and that people want a government that listens, respects taxpayers and delivers results. The report says his campaign will focus on families, seniors, businesses and communities. It gives no measure.

### Remarks on the provincial housing legislation, as Lumby mayor

Today in BC reports that Acton, speaking to Black Press Media as Lumby mayor, said he did not expect Lumby to opt into the province's density legislation because Lumby already has its own rules made through a public process, and that smaller communities like Lumby could have built more housing faster if the provincial government had not made permitting harder. ## What voche.me has checked

Evidence reviewed on 2026-10-03: the Elections BC candidate list stamped October 3, 2026 at 6:00:07 PM and the 2024 statement of votes, the party's candidate, team, platform and news pages and its release on taxes, the Village of Lumby's councillors page, elections page, declaration of candidates and council minutes of August 17, 2026, the Regional District of North Okanagan's Board of Directors page, and Today in BC reports from 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026. No statement on policy in his own words was found on the party's pages, and his own campaign site and social accounts were not found.
