01 / Introduction

## About Gordon Skulnec

Elections BC lists Gordon Skulnec as the Conservative Party candidate in Kootenay Central. The copy of the list read on 2026-10-03, stamped October 3, 2026 12:00:06 PM, shows three accepted nominations in the district: Brittny Anderson of the BC NDP, Nicole Charlwood of the BC Green Party and Gordon Skulnec. Nominations close at 1 p.m. on October 3, 2026, so more candidates may be added. My Nelson Now reported on October 2, 2026 that Hunter Corrigal is running for OneBC in the district.

In 2024 Brittny Anderson won Kootenay Central for the BC NDP with 8,716 votes (39.63 percent), according to the Elections BC statement of votes. Kelly Vandenberghe, the Conservative Party candidate that year, received 6,967 votes (31.67 percent). The surname Skulnec does not appear in the 2024 statement. The Creston Valley Advance reported on October 2, 2026 that Anderson is running again and that the Conservative candidate is former RCMP officer Gordon Skulnec.

The party's candidate page and his campaign website carry the same account of his working life. They say he began as a medical radiographer at Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital in Trail, then joined the RCMP and served 17 years as a general duty police officer in the East Kootenays, starting in Cranbrook and retiring from the Kimberley detachment in May 2023. They say he has run a rental housing and property management business for 20 years and, according to the party page, has operated a business in Salmo for the past decade. These are the campaign's statements. voche.me has not checked the employment dates, the businesses or the RCMP service with the RCMP, a registry or an employer. The Creston Valley Advance and My Nelson Now name him as a former RCMP officer and as the Conservative candidate.

The party page says he is Director of Baseball for the Cranbrook Minor Ball Association and drives the team bus for the Cranbrook Bandits. His campaign website says he received the Alexa's Team award in 2019 after he and two fellow officers removed more than 100 impaired drivers from local roads. Both are the campaign's statements, and voche.me found no association page or news report that confirms either.

His campaign website lists four priorities: safer communities, housing, health care and jobs close to home. Each is a general statement. It names no bill, budget amount, number or date. voche.me has not contacted the campaign.

His campaign website has one page: a biography, four priorities, a signup form and a contact form. The party page and the campaign website state his RCMP service, his earlier work as a medical radiographer, his rental housing and Salmo businesses, his baseball roles and an Alexa's Team award in 2019. voche.me has not confirmed any of these with the RCMP, an employer, a business registry, the Cranbrook Minor Ball Association or the awarding body. The campaign website also quotes figures that it attributes to a police chief, a medical clinic and the Council of Forest Industries, and voche.me has not checked them. The party's platform page says the platform is coming soon and does not name him. None of the 16 releases on the party's news page dated September 23 to October 2, 2026 names him. No public social media account of his was found: the website and the party page link to none, and addresses guessed from his name return login pages that confirm nothing. The name search was limited because the search tool's usage limit was reached; voche.me used news feed searches and read the pages they returned. Results for the surname alone included other people with the surname Skulnec, in older crime reports and sports results. No source ties any of them to this candidate, so none is used. No interview of him, all-candidates meeting, endorsement or campaign finance return was found on this date. Nominations close at 1 p.m. on October 3, 2026, so other candidates may still be added. The questionnaire has not been sent.
