## About George Anderson

Elections BC lists George Anderson as the BC NDP candidate in Nanaimo-Lantzville, on its list stamped October 1, 2026 11:00:06 PM. The other accepted candidate on that copy is Kelsey Pringle of the Conservative Party.

In 2024 he won Nanaimo-Lantzville with 15,307 votes, 51.75% of the valid vote, according to the statement of votes. Gwen O'Mahony of the Conservative Party received 11,687 votes (39.51%) and Lia Versaevel of the BC Green Party 2,586 (8.74%). The legislature record lists 2024 as his only election year.

A government release of November 18, 2024 named him Parliamentary Secretary for Transit. On June 4, 2026 the Premier named him Parliamentary Secretary for Energy and Climate Solutions, to support Minister Adrian Dix. The House appointed him Deputy Chair of the Committee of the Whole for the 2026 session.

In October 2025 he introduced Bill M216, the Professional Reliance Act, to let local governments accept technical work certified by regulated professionals. It passed second reading 47 to 44. Nanaimo city council and municipal groups raised concerns. In April 2026 he asked the committee to stop its work on the bill, and the housing minister said the Province would do further work on its main ideas.

In 2026 he spoke in the legislature for government bills on trade within Canada, property gained from crime, online driver's licence renewal, protest limits near schools and places of worship, and safety in supportive housing.

The legislature's and the government's biography pages say he worked as a commercial lawyer, served on Nanaimo City Council and the Regional District of Nanaimo board, and chaired the Vancouver Island University board of governors. His campaign page says he was the youngest person ever elected to Nanaimo City Council. voche.me has not confirmed these points with the city, the regional district, the university or the law society.

### Local government concerns about Bill M216

The Nanaimo News Bulletin reported on December 4, 2025 that Nanaimo city council would send its concerns about Bill M216 to the Province. City staff said local governments would have to accept reports from regulated professionals in most cases. The paper reported that the Union of B.C. Municipalities and the Planning Institute of B.C. had raised concerns about local control, public safety, liability and consultation.

#### Candidate or party response

In a letter to council quoted by the paper, Anderson said regulated professionals are already accountable under the Professional Governance Act, and that cities would no longer spend months checking certified work again.

#### Verified status and limits

On April 9, 2026 the housing minister said Anderson had asked the committee to stop its work on the bill. The bill was removed from the order paper on April 20, 2026.

voche.me could not open the City of Nanaimo's meeting records on 2026-10-02: the city's meeting portal showed an automated browser check, and the documents returned HTTP 403. His time on Nanaimo City Council and the Regional District of Nanaimo board is stated in the legislature's and the government's biography pages, and he called himself a former Nanaimo city councillor in the legislature; voche.me did not confirm the dates with the city or the regional district. His work as a lawyer, his time as chair of the Vancouver Island University board, the citizenship distinction from the Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce and the 2016 BC Achievement Award are stated by his campaign page and his biography pages, and voche.me did not check them with the bodies that would know. The government's page lists him as Parliamentary Secretary for Energy and Climate Solutions; voche.me found no official record on 2026-10-02 that says whether the role continues during the election period. His X, Facebook and Instagram accounts sit behind a sign-in page, so nothing from them is used. Several transcripts were read only at the passages the speech index points to, and votes were taken from the vote indexes without opening each vote's transcript. The member-level party field in the legislature data returned British Columbia Green Party, while his 43rd Parliament entry returns the BC NDP; the page uses the 43rd Parliament entry and the Elections BC list. News reports by CBC News and NanaimoNewsNOW listed in a news search were not opened, because their addresses could not be read from the search feed. No all-candidates meeting in Nanaimo-Lantzville was found. Campaign finances and endorsements were not reviewed. The questionnaire has not been sent.
