01 / Introduction

## About David Xie

Elections BC lists David Xie as the Conservative Party candidate in Burnaby South-Metrotown. The copy of the list read on 2026-10-03, stamped October 3, 2026 07:00:07 PM, after nominations closed at 1 p.m. that day, shows four accepted nominations in the district: Paul Choi of the BC NDP, Bryan Fockler of the BC Green Party, Andrew Rose of OneBC and David Xie.

The party's candidate page says he has lived in Burnaby for nearly a decade, grew up in Metro Vancouver and graduated from the University of British Columbia. It says he has worked in recruitment and talent acquisition for more than a decade, with businesses and professionals in Canada and internationally, and that his community involvement began with working alongside residents on neighbourhood and family issues. These are the party's statements. voche.me has not checked them with an employer or a university.

Daily Hive reported on October 2, 2026 that Xie had entered the municipal race under the New Burnaby civic party and is also the Conservative Party's confirmed candidate in Burnaby South-Metrotown. It says the Conservatives announced him on Wednesday, September 30. The same report says the Burnaby Citizens Association civic party called on him on October 1 to state his plans before advance voting for the civic election began, and that the Eligibility to Hold Public Office Act, in force since May 2025, prevents a person from serving as both an MLA and an elected municipal official. Daily Hive quotes his emailed reply: "While it is unfortunately too late to be removed from the municipal ballot, I can confirm that I am no longer seeking a seat on City Council." On 2026-10-03 the New Burnaby candidate page still described him as a City Council candidate.

The New Burnaby page says he has been active in grassroots organizing and provincial politics, is a recognized community advocate on public safety, health care, government accountability and neighbourhood planning, and has advocated for the completion of Burnaby Hospital Phase 2. These are the civic party's statements. voche.me found no source that confirms them.

Paul Choi won the district in 2024 with 7,560 votes (49.33 percent), according to Elections BC's statement of votes. Han Lee of the Conservative Party received 6,373 votes (41.59 percent) and Carrie McLaren of the BC Green Party received 960 (6.26 percent). Two other candidates received 432 votes between them. The whole 2024 statement holds no match for the surname Xie.

## Policies, budgets & programs

voche.me found no elected or appointed public office held by this candidate in the sources read on 2026-10-03, so no voting record was reviewed. He was a candidate for Burnaby City Council with the New Burnaby party, and Daily Hive reports his name stays on that civic ballot.

### Interview with CJSF as a Burnaby City Council candidate

Frequency's page says that in the interview he outlined goals if elected to council, such as a one-year property tax increase freeze and making it easier for businesses to open in Burnaby. These are municipal goals, and the page gives a summary only. voche.me did not hear the audio.

No campaign website of his own was found on 2026-10-03. The party's candidate page links only to the party's own social media accounts. The New Burnaby page links to an Instagram account named davidforburnaby, whose public profile line reads that he is the BC Conservative candidate for Burnaby South-Metrotown. Instagram shows its posts only after sign-in, so nothing beyond that profile line was read and nothing from the account is used. The party's platform page says the platform is coming soon and does not name him. None of the releases listed on the party's news page on 2026-10-03 names him. His work history, degree and years in Burnaby come from the party and the New Burnaby page, and voche.me has not checked them with an employer, a university or any other body. The Frequency page for the CJSF interview of September 29, 2026 gives a written summary only. The audio was not heard, so only that summary is used, and it concerns a council seat. A CityNews Vancouver report of May 24, 2026 on the Burnaby Hospital expansion quotes a David Xie described as a spokesman for Burnaby neighbourhood watch. No source read states that this is the candidate, so nothing from that report is used. The City of Burnaby's candidate list page loaded without candidate names, so his place on the civic ballot rests on Daily Hive's report. Whether his name will be withdrawn from the civic ballot, and what the Eligibility to Hold Public Office Act would mean for a candidate elected to both offices, are matters for the election officials. voche.me did not find an official statement on either. All-candidates meetings in Burnaby South-Metrotown, campaign finances and endorsements were not found on this date. The questionnaire has not been sent.

Research status

## What voche.me has checked

Evidence reviewed on 2026-10-03: the Elections BC candidate list and key dates page, the 2024 statement of votes, the party's candidate, team, platform and news pages, the New Burnaby civic party's candidate page, a Daily Hive report of October 2, 2026, a Frequency (CJSF) interview page of September 29, 2026 and the BC Ballot candidate listing.

No campaign website of his own was found. An Instagram account named davidforburnaby, linked from the New Burnaby page, loads only a profile line and requires sign-in for posts, so nothing from it is used. The name search tool was limited on 2026-10-03, so the name search relied on public news search pages and the sites above. An empty section records what voche.me did not find on this date.
