01 / Introduction

## About Bill McConnell

Elections BC lists Bill McConnell as the BC Green Party candidate in Surrey South. On the copy of the list stamped October 1, 2026 03:00:06 PM, two candidates are shown for the district: Megan Knight of the Conservative Party and Bill McConnell of the BC Green Party. Nominations close at 1 p.m. on October 3, 2026, so more candidates may be added.

Peace Arch News reported on September 28, 2026 that the district's MLA, Brent Chapman, will run again for OneBC, and that CentreBC leader Elenore Sturko is also running in Surrey South. Neither name was on the copy of the Elections BC list that voche.me read.

In 2024 Brent Chapman won Surrey South for the Conservative Party with 13,056 votes (58.83 percent), according to Elections BC's statement of votes. Haroon Ghaffar of the BC NDP received 9,136 votes (41.17 percent). Those two are the only candidates the statement lists for the district.

voche.me searched Elections BC's 2024 and 2020 statements of votes and its statement of votes for the 2022 Surrey South by-election, and found no candidate with the surname McConnell in any of them.

On 2026-10-01 the BC Green Party's candidates page listed 18 candidates and did not include him, and a search of the party's website for his surname returned no page. voche.me has not contacted the campaign. His background and his reasons for running are not known from any source read on this date.

No campaign website, party candidate page, social media account, news report, interview or public statement from this candidate was found on 2026-10-01, so his background, his own positions and his reasons for running are unknown. The BC Green Party's candidates page listed 18 candidates on this date and did not include him. The addresses bcgreens.ca/candidates-2026/bill-mcconnell/ and bcgreens.ca/candidates-2026/william-mcconnell/ returned HTTP 404, a search of the party website for McConnell returned no page, and the party's 20 newest posts, from 2026-07-14 to 2026-09-30, do not name him. VoteMate's 2026 candidate list did not include him on this date. BC Ballot lists him as a filed BC Green candidate in Surrey South, with no statement or link. Peace Arch News's September 28 report on the Surrey districts does not name a Green candidate in Surrey South. Search results show other people named Bill or William McConnell, including an obituary, a historical figure and a Bluesky account. No page voche.me read ties any of them to this candidacy, so none of them is used. voche.me searched Elections BC's statements of votes for 2024, 2020 and the 2022 Surrey South by-election for his surname. It did not search federal or municipal results, so earlier candidacies elsewhere may exist. No usable published photograph of the candidate was found, so the page has no portrait. All-candidates meetings in the district, campaign finances and endorsements were not found on this date. Nominations close October 3, 2026, so other candidates may still be added. The questionnaire has not been sent.
