01 / Introduction

## About Ayla Dumais

Elections BC lists Ayla Dumais as the Conservative Party candidate in West Vancouver-Sea to Sky. The copy of the list read on 2026-10-01, stamped October 1, 2026 12:00:07 PM, shows two accepted nominations in the district: Ayla Dumais and Jeremy Valeriote of the BC Green Party. Nominations close at 1 p.m. on October 3, 2026, so more candidates may be added.

The Western Standard reports that the party's account on X named her as its candidate at 5 p.m. Pacific time on Thursday, September 24, 2026. A Canadian Press report published on September 26 says she will run against Jeremy Valeriote, whom it calls the incumbent MLA. The Western Standard also reports that CentreBC named Dan Wood in the district on September 25. The Elections BC copy read on October 1 did not yet show him.

The party's candidate page says she was raised in Squamish and is a member of Prophet River First Nation. The First Nation published a profile of her on March 22, 2024 that calls her a member. That profile says she was then a first-year student at the University of British Columbia, planned a degree in political science, and had been accepted into the Conservative Party of Canada internship program, with a summer placement in the Opposition Leader's Office in Ottawa. The profile names Squamish and Woodfibre LNG, as the party page does, and the Western Standard treats the 2024 profile as being about this candidate.

The party says she works in the Office of the Leader of the Official Opposition as a Policy and Stakeholder Relations Advisor, on subjects that include Indigenous relations, property rights, natural resources and the environment. The party page does not say whether that office is federal or provincial. The Western Standard describes it as work under the federal Conservative leader, Pierre Poilievre. The party also says she worked before that in community relations at Woodfibre LNG in Squamish. voche.me has not checked these jobs with the employers.

Her campaign website lists commitments under four headings. Under cost of living it lists a stop to what it calls inflationary spending by the current government, tax cuts for middle class British Columbians, and the removal of regulations it calls unnecessary. Under property rights it lists repealing DRIPA, protecting access to Crown land and public parks, and working directly with First Nations. It also lists commitments on health care and on schools. The site gives no number, cost or date for any of them.

In the 2024 election Jeremy Valeriote won West Vancouver-Sea to Sky with 10,438 votes (38.08 percent), according to Elections BC's statement of votes. Yuri Fulmer, the Conservative Party candidate that year, received 9,762 votes (35.61 percent), and Jen Ford of the BC NDP received 7,213 votes (26.31 percent). voche.me searched the whole statement for the name Dumais and found no match.

voche.me has not contacted the campaign.

Her campaign website, ayladumais.ca, has two pages: a home page and a volunteer page. Its two "Learn more" buttons opened no further page on 2026-10-01. The site gives no number, cost or date for any commitment. Her campaign account on X lists 7 posts and showed three of them to a direct request without signing in, so the others were not read. Her Instagram and Facebook accounts showed only a sign-in page, and her LinkedIn profile returned HTTP 999, so nothing from them is used. The party's candidate page labels her "Interim Conservative Party Leader". The party's own team page names Lorne Doerkson as leader and lists Dumais only as the West Vancouver-Sea to Sky candidate, so voche.me does not repeat that label. Her job in the Office of the Leader of the Official Opposition and her earlier work at Woodfibre LNG are stated by the party; voche.me has not checked them with the employers, and the party page does not say whether the office is federal or provincial. Her university studies come from a 2024 profile by Prophet River First Nation; voche.me found no source that says whether she finished a degree. A second 2024 post on the First Nation's website about her internship is a message from a relative, and voche.me does not use it. A 2017 Squamish Chief article names a Grade 6 student called Ayla Dumais. No page read on this date says that student is this candidate, so the article is left out of the profile. A post on X by the account @bobzimmermp asks voters in the district to vote for her. voche.me did not confirm who holds the account, so the page does not describe the post. The search pages of the Squamish Chief, Pique Newsmagazine and the North Shore News returned HTTP 403, so those sites were not searched for her name. Searches of the Squamish Reporter and CityNews Vancouver sites for her surname showed no article about her. No interview or news story that quotes her was found. The party's platform page says the platform is coming soon and does not name her, and the party news page does not name her. All-candidates meetings in West Vancouver-Sea to Sky, campaign finances and endorsements were not found on this date. Nominations close October 3, 2026, so other candidates may still be added. The questionnaire has not been sent.

Research status

## What voche.me has checked

Evidence reviewed on 2026-10-01: the Elections BC candidate list and key dates page, the 2024 statement of votes, her campaign website, the party's candidate, team, platform and news pages, her campaign account on X, a 2024 profile published by Prophet River First Nation, three Western Standard campaign reports, a Canadian Press report, and the provincial government's page on the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act.

Her campaign website has two pages and gives no number, cost or date. Her Instagram and Facebook accounts showed only a sign-in page, and LinkedIn returned HTTP 999. The search pages of the Squamish Chief, Pique Newsmagazine and the North Shore News returned HTTP 403, so voche.me could not search those three sites for her name. An empty section records what voche.me did not find on this date.
