01 / Introduction

## About Amna Shah

Amna Shah is the BC NDP candidate in Surrey City Centre on Elections BC's list for the general election of October 24, 2026. On the copy of the list stamped October 1, 2026 at 2:00 p.m., the only other accepted candidate in the district is Zeeshan Wahla of the Conservative Party. Nominations close at 1 p.m. on October 3, 2026.

In 2024 she won Surrey City Centre with 6,726 votes, 46.70% of the valid vote, according to the Elections BC statement of votes. Zeeshan Wahla of the Conservative Party had 6,494 votes, 45.08%, so the margin was 232 votes. The Surrey Now-Leader reported that the first count put the two candidates fewer than 100 votes apart, which led to an automatic recount.

The provincial government's page for parliamentary secretaries says she was appointed Parliamentary Secretary for Mental Health and Addictions in November 2024 and Parliamentary Secretary for Anti-Racism Initiatives in July 2025, and that she is the Deputy Government Whip.

In the legislature in 2026 she spoke in favour of the budget bill, a bill on international students, a bill to protect access to places of worship and the K'ómoks Treaty Act. She also presented reports of the legislature's committee on private bills. Government releases in 2026 quote her on new detox beds in Surrey, the expansion of Foundry youth centres, a 60-bed mental health and addiction care building in Surrey, and grants and a helpline against racism.

The same government page says that before 2024 she was Outreach Director with the BC Government Caucus and a past volunteer and director on the board of the Surrey Food Bank. Her campaign page says she worked with the Ministry of Housing on affordable housing. voche.me has not checked these roles with the Surrey Food Bank, the caucus or the ministry. In a 2024 interview with the Surrey Now-Leader she said she came to Surrey from Malaysia as a high school student.

voche.me has not contacted the campaign.

Her campaign page lists no events and no measures of her own, and its Latest page shows party news. Her Instagram and Facebook pages show no readable posts to a direct read, so nothing from them is used. Her X page showed her profile and her posts from September 23 to 29, 2026. The government page and the BC NDP say she was a director on the board of the Surrey Food Bank and Outreach Director with the BC Government Caucus, and her campaign page says she worked with the Ministry of Housing on affordable housing. voche.me has not confirmed these roles with the food bank, the caucus or the ministry. The transcripts were read for her own speeches; the debates around them were not read line by line. Votes are taken from the vote index only, and the bills behind most votes were not read. The legislature's committee pages were not opened, so her role on the private bills committee is described only from the reports she presented. voche.me found no 2026 statement by her on housing supply, jobs or the environment on 2026-10-01. Her record before 2026 was not reviewed. No 2026 all-candidates meeting for Surrey City Centre was found. Campaign finances and endorsements were not reviewed. The questionnaire has not been sent.
