## Controversies & public scrutiny

Records are labelled by type, including official findings, civil proceedings and political disputes where applicable. Each entry identifies the response found in the sources and the latest status verified for this page.

Policy disputeMay 6, 2024

### Opposition criticism of his remarks on antisemitism at universities

In question period on May 6, 2024, opposition MLA Michael Lee said Singh’s remarks that morning called concerns about antisemitism on campuses “inflated and unfounded” and asked the Premier to condemn them. The words “inflated and unfounded” are Lee’s description. They do not appear in the Hansard transcript of Singh’s remarks that morning. On May 7, Lee and opposition MLA Todd Stone repeated the question. Premier David Eby and two ministers answered with the government’s actions against antisemitism.

#### Candidate or party response

On the afternoon of May 7, 2024, Singh made a personal statement in the House: “We must defend free speech while also calling out hate, and I missed that balance yesterday.” He said he was sorry and would meet members of the Jewish community.

#### Verified status and limits

voche.me found no 2026 statement by Singh in his own words on any scored issue on 2026-10-01. His campaign page holds a party-written biography and the party’s headings, and lists no events. The party’s biography says he was the first turban-wearing Sikh elected to the legislature, that he is a civil and human rights lawyer and a small business owner, and lists boards he served on. voche.me did not check these claims with the legislature, the Law Society of British Columbia, Kwantlen Polytechnic University or the organizations named. A party release of November 17, 2025 says convention delegates elected him party president. The Canadian Press called him BC NDP president on September 28, 2026, and the Western Standard called him a former party president on September 29, 2026. voche.me did not find a party page that states who is president on 2026-10-01. The government release of December 7, 2022 names him Parliamentary Secretary for Environment. voche.me did not find the date that role ended. George Chow, who won the district in 2024, is not on the Elections BC list read on 2026-10-01. voche.me found no statement by Chow about his plans. The Western Standard named a Conservative candidate for the district, but the Elections BC list read on this date shows only Singh and Francoise Raunet. Nominations close at 1 p.m. on October 3, 2026, so other candidates may be added. For his earlier term, voche.me read the members index and the recorded votes index for 2021 to 2024, and 12 transcripts from 2023 and 2024. It did not read his speeches from 2021 and 2022 or his other 2023 speeches, and it did not open the transcripts of the recorded votes. Figures he gave in debate were not checked. His Bluesky account is public: it returned 100 posts and reposts, from November 2024 to December 2025, and none is about the 2026 election. His Instagram account needs a sign-in and was not read. The BC NDP candidate data lists no other social media accounts for him. The candidate portrait is the headshot on his campaign page. Its file name refers to Richmond-Queensborough, so it may date from an earlier campaign. No all-candidates meeting for Vancouver-Fraserview was found. Campaign finances and endorsements were not reviewed. The questionnaire has not been sent.

## What voche.me has checked

Evidence reviewed on 2026-10-01: the Elections BC candidate list and key dates page, the 2020 and 2024 statements of votes, the legislature’s member record for Aman Singh, the government release of December 7, 2022 that names him Parliamentary Secretary for Environment, his entries in the legislature’s members index and recorded votes index for 2021 to 2024, 12 transcripts from 2023 and 2024, his campaign page, the BC NDP candidate data, platform page and releases, his public Bluesky account, and reports by The Canadian Press and the Western Standard.

The legislature record and the party’s candidate page tie the former Richmond-Queensborough MLA to this candidacy. His 2026 commitments on this page are the party’s; voche.me found no 2026 statement in his own words on a scored issue on this date. Sections with no entry record what voche.me did not find on this date.
