01 / Introduction

## About A'aliya Warbus

A'aliya Warbus is the Conservative Party candidate in Chilliwack-Cultus Lake on the Elections BC candidate list dated October 3, 2026, and the sitting member for the riding. The Elections BC statement of votes shows that she won the riding for the Conservative Party in 2024 with 13,656 votes, 54.58% of the valid vote, ahead of Kelli Paddon of the BC NDP with 11,366 votes, 45.42%. Paddon is also on the 2026 list for the riding.

The name on the Elections BC list is A'aliya Warbus. The legislature and Hansard print Á'a:líya Warbus, and the Conservative Party of BC candidate page prints Á'a:líya (A'aliya) Warbus. That page names her as the candidate for Chilliwack-Cultus Lake and ties the two spellings together.

The legislature's member record, read on October 3, 2026, lists her in the 43rd Parliament as Independent in Chilliwack-Cultus Lake, and records her 2024 election for the Conservative Party of British Columbia. The Elections BC list of the same day gives her affiliation as Conservative Party. Reporting by CBC, CTV, The Canadian Press and Chilliwack Progress says she left the Conservative caucus (the party's group of MLAs) on August 31, 2026 to sit as an Independent, and Chilliwack Progress reported that she joined CentreBC with other former Conservative MLAs on September 18. Black Press reported that on September 22, hours after Premier David Eby called the election, she announced her return to the Conservative Party of BC. The reasons given here are the ones she gave: on August 31 she said she had lost confidence in leader Kerry-Lynne Findlay, and on September 22 she said that with Lorne Doerkson named interim leader the party can reset.

According to Chilliwack Progress, she was named House Leader in John Rustad's shadow cabinet on November 19, 2024. A House Leader plans and manages her party's business in the legislature. On April 14, 2026 she called herself House Leader for the official opposition in the House, and My Cariboo Now reported on June 29, 2026 that the role had been handed to Sheldon Clare. In 2026 Hansard (the official transcript of the legislature) records her speaking on the budget estimates of two ministries, the Merit Commissioner, freedom of information, environmental assessment, the K'ómoks Treaty Act, ferry service, DRIPA, education assistants, supportive housing and mental health care. She voted no on the budget bills and the Supply Act and yes on first reading of three bills introduced by other members, which the programs section lists with their context.

CBC and The Canadian Press describe her as a member of the Stó:lō Nation, and The Canadian Press called her the Opposition's only Indigenous MLA. Her own website and the party's candidate page say she holds a Master of Fine Arts in film production from the University of British Columbia, worked as Director of Cultural Communications for the Stó:lō Xwexwilmexw Government and taught in the Indigenous digital film department at Capilano University. Those are the campaign's own statements, and voche.me has not checked them with those bodies.

### Legislation on Aboriginal title must work for everyone

In her statement of September 22, 2026, reported by Black Press, Warbus said that any legislation that addresses Aboriginal title (Indigenous rights to land) must be "practical, transparent and capable of bringing Indigenous and non-Indigenous British Columbians together." She also said that if the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (DRIPA) is not the answer, British Columbia needs an acceptable framework to move reconciliation and the land question forward.

### Keep access to information open

In the debate on Bill 9 on May 4, 2026, Warbus said freedom-of-information laws are one of the foundations of government accountability and one of the main ways the public can understand how decisions are made. She said the bill gives public bodies new discretion to refuse requests, weakens response timelines, widens the categories of requests that may be disregarded and allows fees for records that were free. ### Questions on the ferry service contract

Warbus said repeated mechanical failures were happening under the government's approved service contract and asked who is accountable if the contract does not hold the ferries commission to basic standards. Minister Mike Farnworth answered that B.C. Ferries operates as an independent company under the Coastal Ferry Act.

### Minister reads a 2020 Facebook post and calls her a pipeline protester

On May 20, 2026, in question period, Minister of Jobs Ravi Kahlon said the Conservatives' House Leader had been one of the people protesting the Coastal GasLink pipeline. He read from a Facebook post that he dated to February 2020 and attributed to the House Leader. As he read it, the post opposes poisoning the land to gain money from natural gas sales to Asia. He spoke after the Conservative MLA Kiel Giddens asked about an unsolved 2022 attack on a pipeline work site, and the Hansard members index lists the exchange under Warbus.

#### Candidate or party response

The transcript of May 20 records no reply from Warbus. voche.me did not find a statement from her on the post in the transcripts or reports it opened, and did not open the original post.

#### Verified status and limits

No official finding. The exchange is a dispute between ministers and the opposition. The text of the post is as the minister read it into the record, and voche.me could not confirm that Warbus wrote it.

Her own website, aaliyawarbus.com, answered HTTP 403 to direct requests and was read through the WebFetch tool. It is the website of her office as MLA and holds a short biography, a help request form and news items. It lists no campaign platform and no events. voche.me found no separate 2026 campaign website. The Conservative Party of BC candidate page holds a biography and a donation form, and its news list reads "No data was found". Its platform page lists headings with one-line summaries, and voche.me did not open the detail pages. The party's events page was not read. Instagram shows a profile description that calls her a Conservative candidate for Chilliwack Cultus Lake, and none of its posts could be read. The Facebook page returned no readable text, and her website's footer names Facebook and X without addresses voche.me could read. No social media post is used. The legislature's member record lists no roles for her. Her House Leader title comes from Chilliwack Progress (2024), her own words in the House (April 14, 2026) and My Cariboo Now (June 29, 2026), and the exact date the role ended was not found. The legislature record still lists her as Independent on 2026-10-03, while the Elections BC list and the party page name her as a Conservative candidate. voche.me found no legislature notice that explains the difference and did not open her own post of September 22. The May 20, 2026 Facebook post read by Minister Ravi Kahlon was not opened and its authorship is not confirmed. The index lists a vote on third reading of Bill 14 on April 21, 2026, and the transcript opened (issue 159) shows no division list that names her, so that vote is not used. Research status

## What voche.me has checked

Evidence reviewed on 2026-10-03: the Elections BC candidate list dated October 3, 2026 and the 2024 statement of votes, the legislature's member record, its 2026 speech and vote indexes, 27 transcripts of the 2026 sitting, her own website, the Conservative Party of BC candidate page, team page, platform page and release of September 23, and news reports from 2024 and 2026 by Chilliwack Progress, CBC, CTV, The Canadian Press and My Cariboo Now.

Party label. The legislature's member record read on October 3, 2026 lists her as Independent in the 43rd Parliament. The Elections BC list of October 3, 2026 gives her affiliation as Conservative Party, and the Conservative Party of BC names her as its candidate. Chilliwack Progress reported that she announced her return to the party on September 22, 2026. voche.me did not find a legislature notice that explains the difference, so this page shows both records.

Her commitments on this page come from what she said in the legislature in 2026 and from her statement of September 22, 2026 as reported by Black Press. Her website and the party page set out no platform of her own. The accountability section holds one public dispute and no official finding. Her social media accounts could not be read, her website answered HTTP 403 to direct requests and was read through the WebFetch tool, and the questionnaire has not been sent.
