Who pays for physiotherapy in North Vancouver depends on how the injury happened and on the patient's income. This article sets out what ICBC, WorkSafeBC and the Medical Services Plan say they cover, how to check that a physiotherapist is licensed, and which clinics are in voche.me's [North Vancouver physiotherapy guide](/bc/north-vancouver-district-2026/guides/physiotherapy-clinics-north-vancouver).

## After a car crash: ICBC

Since May 2021, ICBC's Enhanced Care has covered everyone for 12 weeks after a crash, whoever was responsible. In those 12 weeks a set number of treatments are pre-approved. ICBC's table for treatments between April 1, 2026 and March 31, 2027 lists 25 physiotherapist treatments, each at least 20 minutes long.

You do not need a referral from a family doctor or nurse practitioner, and you do not need ICBC's approval. ICBC asks for two things: your Personal Health Number and your ICBC claim number, which is created when you report the claim. ICBC says the 12 weeks "can go by quickly" and asks people to book appointments right away.

Many clinics bill ICBC directly, so the patient pays nothing at the desk. When a clinic cannot, the patient pays and claims the money back within 180 days, up to ICBC's approved rates. If recovery takes longer than 12 weeks, the physiotherapist works with the patient's ICBC recovery specialist to get more treatments approved. ICBC also advises giving more weight to active treatment, where the patient does the exercises, than to passive treatment, where the patient does not take part.

## After a work injury: WorkSafeBC

WorkSafeBC asks injured workers to go to a physiotherapist who has a contract with it in their region, and to tell the clinic the injury happened at work. A contracted physiotherapist can do a first assessment before WorkSafeBC has accepted the claim, and bills WorkSafeBC directly. The assessment also covers how the injury affects the worker's ability to do their job.

A worker who picks a clinic with no WorkSafeBC contract pays for each visit and asks to be paid back. WorkSafeBC pays its own set rate, which its health care benefits page lists as $95 per physiotherapy visit from April 1, 2026. The worker pays any difference.

## On a low income: MSP supplementary benefits

MSP does not pay for physiotherapy for most people. It does pay part of the cost for people who qualify for its supplementary benefits. For them, MSP pays $23 per visit, for a total of 10 visits each calendar year shared across six services: physical therapy, acupuncture, chiropractic, massage therapy, naturopathy and non-surgical podiatry.

A family may qualify when its adjusted net income is under $42,000. That figure is last year's net income, as the Canada Revenue Agency confirms it, after deductions for age, family size and disability. People on income assistance, convention refugees and several other groups may also qualify. The Province's page says many practitioners have opted out of MSP and may charge more than the MSP payment, and that they must say so, with the amount the patient will pay, before treatment starts. MSP pays nothing for treatment outside B.C.

## Checking a physiotherapist's licence

Physical therapists in B.C. are licensed by the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC. The College's website has a Public Registry of the people it licenses. It also takes complaints about the competence or conduct of anyone it licenses, and reports about anyone who uses a title reserved for licensed people without a licence.

## Where to go in North Vancouver

voche.me's own pick is Medstar Physiotherapy, on Marine Drive. Its website gives the address as 1325 Marine Drive and says the clinic opened in 2018. The clinic says it bills ICBC and WorkSafeBC directly and offers same-week appointments. It lists sports physiotherapy, IMS dry needling, concussion and vestibular care, post-surgical rehab, massage therapy and acupuncture among its services, and says each patient is treated one on one in a private room. Those are the clinic's own statements.

The other three clinics in the guide come from North Shore News readers. In the paper's 2023 Readers' Choice Awards, where it counted 6,660 votes, the favourite physiotherapy clinic was Lynn Valley Orthopaedic & Sports Physiotherapy. Andy Prest wrote on February 15, 2023 that it had been first in that category "for at least seven years in a row." The two finalists were Avita Health & Massage Therapy Centre and COAST Performance Rehab.

## Before the first visit

For a crash, have your ICBC claim number and Personal Health Number ready. For a work injury, tell the clinic it happened at work and give your WorkSafeBC claim number once you have one. For MSP supplementary benefits, ask the clinic whether it has opted out of MSP and what you will pay on top.
