WHO THEY ARE
## About Langley Strong
Elections BC's Register of Elector Organizations by Jurisdiction, dated October 30, 2026, lists Langley Strong for the jurisdictions Langley School District and Langley, Township of, with no other name and the ballot name Langley Strong. It names Barbara Sharp as the authorized principal official.
The Township of Langley's results page prints Langley Strong as the organization of 13 candidates: Jay Lundgren for mayor; Lauren Chalus, Shumail Javed, Margaret Kunst, Barb Martens, Kim Richter, Teresa Townsley and Blair Whitmarsh for Council; and Candy Ashdown, Kathie Dalziel, Holly Dickinson, Charlie Fox and Neil Turner for school trustee. Lundgren was elected mayor with 18,302 votes to Eric Woodward's 15,459. Kunst, Martens, Whitmarsh, Richter, Townsley and Chalus took six of the eight council seats; Javed was ninth. All five trustee candidates were elected. The site also lists Tony Ward, a trustee elected by Langley City voters, as part of the team; the City's election is outside this record.
The Langley Advance Times reported on March 9, 2026 that Langley Strong had registered with Elections BC and was headed by Barb Sharp, the longtime head of the Christmas in Williams Park event and a former mayor of the City of North Vancouver, who did not plan to run herself. On May 5, 2026 the Advance Times reported that the four councillors outside Mayor Woodward's Progress for Langley majority, Kunst, Martens, Richter and Whitmarsh, had joined, with businessman Jay Lundgren as the candidate for mayor. The paper said it was the first contest between two opposing slates in the Township since 1999.
The campaign's main subject was the Township's debt. Langley Strong's first platform pillar, released September 8, 2026, said the Township's 2026 capital budget showed $797.6 million in debt in place, in progress, approved or borrowed through its housing society. CBC reported on April 23, 2026 that the Township had authorized $602 million in debt and had the highest debt per person of any major city in BC, and that Mayor Woodward said the borrowing paid for needed facilities. CTV reported on October 9, 2026 that Woodward put the borrowing in his term at more than $400 million and Lundgren at about $600 million.
The ten pillars, released between September 8 and October 10, 2026, cover taxpayers, communities, neighbours, small business, children, seniors, farmers and heritage, safety, the environment, and how the Township treats people. A separate trustee platform, Keep Langley Schools Strong, has five pillars. The site's About page says the campaign is funded by contributions from residents; that is the organization's own account.
