Langley RCMP is warning Township residents about fireworks, drinking and driving, and driver speeds on Halloween night, October 31. The advisory came from the detachment on October 30.

Cpl. Mansoor Sahak said residents of the Township of Langley and Langley City both need a permit to set off fireworks. "Failing to do so, you could be issued a violation ticket or a bylaw," he said. Sahak added that the RCMP would have many officers working that night.

## Fireworks require a permit

The Township of Langley requires a permit for private fireworks, and the same rule applies in the City of Langley. Residents who set off fireworks without a permit risk receiving a violation ticket or a bylaw fine, according to Cpl. Sahak.

## Slow down for children on foot

RCMP asked drivers to reduce speed in residential neighbourhoods and near areas where children are trick-or-treating. Police warn that children may cross roads without warning, and that drivers should put away distractions. Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, meaning children may be out later into the evening.

## Safe rides and treat checks

Cpl. Sahak told anyone who plans to drink to arrange a safe way home before the evening starts: a taxi, public transit, a carpool, or a designated driver. "We don't want you drinking driving. That would be a bad way to end the night," he said.

Parents are encouraged to check all treats before children eat them. The RCMP advises discarding anything that appears tampered with or is not in its original commercial packaging. Costumes should fit well and not create tripping hazards. Masks should not block a child's vision. Bright or reflective clothing, or a flashlight or glow sticks, helps drivers see children after dark.

Township residents who need police on Halloween night can call the Langley RCMP. Local election news, including decisions by Township Council and the Langley Board of Education, is at [/bc/langley-township-2026/news](/bc/langley-township-2026/news).
