01 / Introduction

## About Michael V. Pratt

Michael V. Pratt was re-elected to the Township of Langley Council on October 17, 2026, with 12,872 votes, seventh of the 20 candidates for the eight seats, in the Township's official results declared on October 21, 2026. The Langley Advance Times reported that Langley Strong won the mayor's chair for Jay Lundgren, six of the eight council seats and all five Township seats on the Langley Board of Education, and that Pratt and Steve Ferguson were the only two of the four Progress for Langley councillors on the ballot to keep their seats. The new Council's inaugural meeting is on November 2, 2026.

The Township's council page says he is a lifelong resident of the Township serving his first term, a Master's student in Urban Studies and a small business owner, a member of the Agricultural Advisory Committee, a director of the Langley School Board Foundation and the founder and a director of Langley Youth for the Fallen. The Township's results pages record 8,169 votes for him in 2018, tenth place and 374 votes short of the last seat, and 8,348 votes in 2022, when he took the eighth seat. The Aldergrove Star reported in 2022 that he and his sister were behind the Walk to Remember at the Derek Doubleday Arboretum, a memorial of trees planted for the Canadian soldiers who died in Afghanistan, and in its report of the November 2022 inauguration called him the youngest person ever elected in Langley Township. By his own account in the Advance Times' candidate profile of October 8, 2026, he is a public servant and urban planner who lives in Murrayville; the Star reported in 2022 that he was completing a Master's degree in Urban Studies at Simon Fraser University while working full time. voche.me has not checked his employer.

He was elected as an independent in 2022; the Advance Times quoted him then saying that being an independent meant keeping an open mind, and reported that his priorities were the water supply in North Langley, staffing for the fire department and a new master transportation plan. The Advance Times reported on March 9 and April 11, 2026 that he joined Mayor Eric Woodward's Progress for Langley in 2025, in the middle of the term, which gave the organization five of the nine votes on Council. Progress for Langley's team page describes him as an incumbent councillor, urban planner and lifelong Langley resident.

His votes in the last year of the term are on the record. The minutes of the Regular Council Meeting of March 9, 2026 record that the 2026 to 2030 financial plan bylaw passed first, second and third reading with the four councillors outside Progress for Langley opposed, so with his vote in favour; the Advance Times quoted him saying the Council was doing what needed to be done and that he was proud of it, pointing to the facilities renewal and culvert programs. At the same meeting he moved the motion sending the draft Transportation and Mobility Strategy to a last round of public engagement, and moved amendments on a slow streets pilot, with 30 and 40 km/h zones, and on roundabouts. The Advance Times reported on June 17 that, when the Township's audited statements were debated, he said development cost charge reserves kept rising, with $39.4 million paid in 2025 against $11.8 million the year before, and on June 29 that he called the plan for a park next to two new Willoughby schools exciting for the east of Willoughby and the future Smith neighbourhood. No report of a court matter names him.

At the Fort Langley Community Association's all-candidates meeting on September 21, 2026, he said the detailed route for taking trucks out of Fort Langley was ready and waiting for approval from TransLink and the Agricultural Land Commission, and that the Township would be able to fund it at once, the Advance Times reported. At the Greater Langley Chamber of Commerce debate on September 29 he said the first priority among new recreation facilities was a new Willoughby Community Centre, and that Brookswood was the next place growth would come. At the Aldergrove forum on October 5 he said candidates had to be careful what they wrote about the Aldergrove radio station lands, which he described as 900 acres at the headwaters of the Salmon River with forest and wetlands; Langley Strong's candidates answered that their platform did not propose to develop the whole site. In the Advance Times' candidate profile he wrote that he was running again so that infrastructure and amenities keep pace with growth and to build complete, connected communities.

Researched on 2026-10-30 through the seven search steps listed below: the Township's results page, declaration of candidates and About the Candidates page; the Township's page for Councillor Pratt and its 2018 and 2022 results pages; the minutes of the Regular Council Meeting of March 9, 2026; Progress for Langley's home, team, plan, What's At Risk and accomplishments pages, each read from an Internet Archive copy because the organization's site did not answer; his VoteMate page; the Advance Times' candidate profile of October 8 and its reports of the Fort Langley, Chamber of Commerce and Aldergrove meetings; its reports of March 9 and 16, April 11, June 17 and 29, October 17 and 19, 2026; and the Aldergrove Star's and Advance Times' reports of his 2022 campaign and the 2022 inauguration, read from Internet Archive copies because the papers' old addresses now open their home pages.

His council term, committee roles and vote counts come from the Township's own pages and minutes.
