Coquitlam is marking Remembrance Day with a week of public events, anchored by a ceremony at the Blue Mountain Park cenotaph on November 11 at 11 am, according to the City's November 3 announcement.

The events run under the name Coquitlam Remembers and are organized by the City and Coquitlam Royal Canadian Legion Branch 263.

## The November 11 ceremony

A parade departs from Como Lake Middle School at 1121 King Albert Avenue at 10:25 am and walks to the cenotaph at Blue Mountain Park, 975 King Albert Avenue. The ceremony starts at 11 am and is open to all.

## Poppy painting at the park and Spirit Square

The City has set aside space along Veteran's Way in Blue Mountain Park for residents to paint poppies in the week before Remembrance Day. Sessions run at set times on November 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10.

There is also a session at Spirit Square, on Burlington Drive across from City Hall, on Thursday, November 5 from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm.

## Messages of remembrance

Residents can write a message and tie it to a tree along Veteran's Way in Blue Mountain Park. The City says messages will stay up until November 14 and then be transcribed and shared with Canadian veteran groups.

## Centenary poppies on Ridgeway Avenue

A public art installation called Centenary Poppies now runs along Ridgeway Avenue. Vancouver-based artist Linfeng Zhou designed the work, which transforms light posts into poppy stems. The City says it marks the centenary of the Coquitlam Legion.

## Upcoming dates

The last poppy painting sessions at Blue Mountain Park are on Sunday, November 8 (10 am to noon and 2 to 4 pm), Monday, November 9 (9 to 11 am) and Tuesday, November 10 (11 am to 1 pm and 3 to 5 pm), according to the City's announcement. The City's Remembrance Day page says the parade on November 11 will begin at Como Lake Middle School "at approximately 10:25 a.m.", and the ceremony at the cenotaph starts at 11 am. Anyone who wishes to pay their respects is welcome.
