Millennium Line SkyTrain service in Burnaby was halted early Wednesday morning after heavy smoke was reported at Gilmore Station, TransLink said in a statement reported by CTV News. Service was suspended at 5:50 am.

TransLink closed three stations as a result: Brentwood, Gilmore and Rupert. The transit agency said it was conducting a thorough investigation of the infrastructure at Gilmore Station, and that the station would not reopen until that investigation was complete and the infrastructure had been cleared.

## Alternative service in place

TransLink placed extra buses and staff at five stations near the closure: Holdom, Brentwood, Gilmore, Rupert and Renfrew, CTV News reported.

The Expo Line and Canada Line continued operating normally and were not affected by the disruption. Riders who would normally use Brentwood or other Millennium Line stops in Burnaby could transfer to the Expo Line at a connecting station.

## What TransLink said

TransLink's statement described the situation as an active investigation. No cause was named for the smoke. CTV News described the story as developing, meaning further updates were expected throughout the morning.

The station was to stay closed until the investigation finished and the infrastructure was cleared for operation. No estimated reopening time was given in the CTV News report. TransLink publishes live service alerts at translink.ca.

## What residents can do

Residents planning to travel on the Millennium Line in Burnaby should check the TransLink website at translink.ca or the TransLink app before leaving. Transit alerts there are updated as conditions change. The five bus stops with added service, as reported by CTV News, are Holdom, Brentwood, Gilmore, Rupert and Renfrew.

The Expo Line and Canada Line remained available for travel into and through Vancouver. CTV News reported both lines were continuing regular service and were not affected by the disruption at Gilmore Station.
