## What council has promised

voche.me's promise tracker at [/bc/burnaby-2026/tracker](/bc/burnaby-2026/tracker) records every commitment each elected person made during the campaign. All are currently listed as not yet started, because the term begins with the inaugural meeting.

Mayor Hurley's platform commits to building 1,000 affordable rental homes through the Burnaby Housing Authority, including townhomes for families. He also committed to speeding up permit approvals for new home construction and keeping the fees the City charges developers low, so that homes cost less and more projects move forward. On community infrastructure, his platform calls for finishing three community centres: Burnaby Lake Recreation Centre, Cameron Community Centre and Library, and Brentwood Community Centre.

The seven BCA councillors share the party's platform promises for Burnaby, covering transit, parks and city services alongside housing. Richard T. Lee's promises through NEW Burnaby are tracked at [his page](/bc/burnaby-2026/candidates/richard-t-lee). NEW Burnaby's platform notes its commitments require a NEW Burnaby majority on council, which it does not hold: BCA holds seven of the eight councillor seats.

## The school board

Seven trustees were elected to the Burnaby Board of Education (School District 41) on October 17. All seven ran with BCA: [Kristin Schnider](/bc/burnaby-2026/candidates/kristin-schnider) (21,994 votes), [Bill Brassington](/bc/burnaby-2026/candidates/bill-brassington) (21,341), [Hillary Bergshoeff](/bc/burnaby-2026/candidates/hillary-bergshoeff) (20,678), [Jen Mezei](/bc/burnaby-2026/candidates/jen-mezei) (19,876), [Paul Kwon](/bc/burnaby-2026/candidates/paul-kwon) (19,772), [Stephen Andrada](/bc/burnaby-2026/candidates/stephen-andrada) (19,624) and [Colin Zuo](/bc/burnaby-2026/candidates/colin-zuo) (18,497). Vote counts are from elections.burnaby.ca.

The Burnaby Schools events page lists the Board of Education's inaugural session on Tuesday, November 24, 2026 at 7:00 pm. The meeting will be held at the District Administration Office, 4054 Norfolk Street in Burnaby.

The incoming board trustees share BCA platform commitments on school funding, facilities and programs for students with diverse needs, as well as board governance and inclusion. Each trustee's individual promises are tracked at voche.me.

The school district is also dealing with a cyberattack that was discovered on September 21, 2026. The district's official update page at burnabyschools.ca says an unauthorized party gained access to district systems and may have copied files containing student and staff personal information, including names, contact information, dates of birth, Personal Education Numbers, and in some cases documents submitted to establish residency. The investigation is ongoing, the district has reported the matter to Burnaby RCMP and the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for BC, and it is offering affected students registration with TransUnion's Fraud Alert Database. The incoming trustees will face this matter in their first weeks in office.
